Position Overview:

Leads the pharmacy technicians in the inpatient and Outpatient Pharmacy. Accountable for leading the day-to-day activities of the technician staff, scheduling technicians, and providing staff development and technician training. Assists department leadership in achieving departmental goals. Under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist, will assist in the various activities of the pharmacy department. Functions in accordance with standard written procedures, guidelines, and state and federal regulations.

Location: Holy Cross Health has two hospitals and four healthcare centers all a short driving distance from Washington DC and Baltimore, MD

Key Responsibilities:

Provides leadership, orientation, and training of technicians.

Assists the Pharmacy Supervisors to oversee the technician’s daily operations in a cost-effective manner. Responsible for assisting with technician weekly scheduling, coordination of work of pharmacy technicians, completing project assignments, continually improving care and service provided, and assuring adequate resources are available to meet customer needs.

Performs all the responsibilities outlined in the Holy Cross Hospital Pharmacy Technician job description 50% of the time including preparation procedures for all dosage forms and products, pre-packaging medications, restocking of work areas, checking in and putting away drug orders, and preparing and delivering automated dispensing cabinet orders in a timely manner.

Maintains automated dispensing cabinet functionality, organization, and efficiency. Audit pharmacy technicians' activities as a quality assurance initiative.

Performs inspections of all clinical areas where medications are stored and submits audit reports.

In the absence of the buyer, oversee the purchasing process to ensure contract compliance, formulary adherence, and appropriate inventory levels.

Provides customer service to medical professionals.

Follows all policies and procedures to allow for effective and efficient patient care, as well as being an effective role model to others.

Serve as the Experiential Site Coordinator of the Trinity Health Enterprise – Pharmacy Education & Advancement for Technicians (THE -PEAT) program.

Reports to:

Reports to the Director of Pharmacy but accountable to the Pharmacy Supervisors, Residency Program Director and Pharmacy Clinical Manager Has responsibility for leading the pharmacy technician staff.

Minimum Licensure/Certification Required (if applicable):

Work requires the level of knowledge normally acquired through completion of an Associate Degree and one (1) year of leadership experience or five (5) years of previous hospital pharmacy technician experience.

Certification (PTCB) and MD registration/licensure as a Pharmacy Technician is required.

Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:

Work requires the analytical ability to gather and interpret data in situations where the information or problems are fairly difficult and complex.

Work requires the ability to use the pharmacy computer system to input and retrieve patient medication and demographic information and to order enter drug orders and retrieve information for statistical purposes.

Work requires the ability to deal with people at all levels and skills in various situations in a courteous and tactful manner.

Work may require prolonged standing, walking and consistent physical movement on routine basis.

Pay is based on experience, skills and education. Exempt positions under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) will be paid within the base salary equivalent of the stated hourly rates. The pay range may also vary within the stated range based on location.
