Description:

  • Reporting to the Director of Maternity Suites

  • The Lactation Consultant plans implements and evaluates the continuing educational activities for designated clinical areas. Under the direction of the Vice President, Women’s, Infants and Children and in collaboration with the Nurse Managers and the clinical staff, the Lactation Consultant serves as a resource for the lactation Program to improve nursing practice and quality of patient care. This position will be located is located at our Silver Spring Hospital.

Responsibilities:

  • Assesses both mother and infant to determine appropriate management and support of the breastfeeding dyad.

  • Collaborates with and serves as a resource to medical and nursing staff for questions related to lactation, milk storage and handling or contraindications for breastfeeding.

  • Maintains unit and patient flow, census & assignment boards and records.

  • Processes orders/requests for supplies/equipment.

  • Assists with admission/transfer/discharge process.

  • Monitors continuously for baby alarms and doors for the secure locked unit.

  • Assist Physicians and Nurses with workflow as needed.

What you will need:

  • High School diploma or equivalent

  • Board certified as a Lactation Consultant (IBCLC)

  • Minimum of one (1) year clinical experience in relevant clinical area

  • AHA BLS

  • Previous experience as a unit secretary, administrative partner or Health Unit Coordinator

  • Computer skills – Microsoft Office products.

  • Must have excellent communication skills (verbal, written) and fluency in the English language.

  • Visual and auditory acuity.

  • Ability to identify and distinguish color.
