The Position

As a member of the Network & Infrastructure for Operation (NIO) team based in Japan, you are responsible for both supporting current operations as well as building new network solutions locally in Japan and globally in collaboration with colleagues worldwide. You will be involved in both business and technology discussions to share your views on ways to optimize our way of working while ensuring operational stability, sustainability, and compliance. You are empowered with high level of autonomy to exercise critical thinking and act proactively.

Responsibilities

Business Consultancy

  • Develop deep understanding of local business environment and business needs.

  • Actively partner with others to drive standardization, global solutions, and best practices.

  • Build relationships with key stakeholders and act as a trusted technology advisor.

Technology Expertise

  • Oversee the design, development, and maintenance of network solutions and infrastructure.

  • Manage IT operations (i.e., configuration management, system lifecycle documentation etc.)

  • Monitor industry trends and best practices and actively participate in global technology discussions as an SME.

Collaboration

  • Work across cultures, geographies, functions, and organization levels.

  • Champion agile methods and efficiency.

  • Act as a change agent through collaboration and inclusion.

  • Strong customer focus

Management & Mentoring

  • Manage projects.

  • Steer external partners/vendors.

  • Ensure system compliance.

  • Mentor team members.

  • Inspire others to reach their full potential.

Requirements

  • A degree in IT, Engineering or Computer Science

  • 7+ years of experience in IT with 3+ years in a large enterprise.

  • Deep knowledge and working experience in Internet fundamentals, IP routing protocols and troubleshooting MPLS/IP VPN based networks.

  • At least 3 years in LAN switching technology (including large scale LAN network management and deployment), and WAN deployments (i.e. data center backbone connectivity etc.)

  • Strong project management skills with at least 3 years leading network or related IT initiatives.

  • Knowledge of ITIL processes and best practices.

  • Understanding of asset management, internet security and cloud solutions.

  • Keen interest in current and emerging technologies.

  • Demonstrates rapid and continuous learning. Comfortable with ambiguity.

  • Has the drive to achieve. Pursues initiatives with energy and persistence even in the face of challenges. Confident to try things that have not been done before.

  • Has the emotional intelligence and adaptability to thrive in any environment.

  • Familiarity with the Japanese market, culture, and business practices.

  • Cross-cultural competency paired with fluent language skills in Japanese and English.

Additional skills

  • Programming experience (Python is preferred)

  • Experience in automation and configuration management with open-source tools (e.g. Ansible, Chef, Puppet)

Location

The primary location is Tokyo and the work hours are flexible. Work can be done both on-site and remote based on the subject matter and alignment with the supervisor.
