Job Overview

The Department of Defense Military Treatment Facilities (MTF) at the 82nd MDG, Sheppard AFB, TX, has a requirement for personal services, Physician Assistant to contribute to a stable workforce tasked with providing health care services to a diverse beneficiary population at Sheppard Air Force Base.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university certified by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education of the Physician Assistant

  • Certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician’s Assistants (NCCPA)

  • Experience: Experience in meeting clinical competency requirements

  •  Basic Life Support certification

  • Competent in using electronic medical record systems; knowledge of computer operations and competency in the use of basic word processing, data entry, and automated medical records. Must be a fully qualified typist with 40 WPM.

  • Health Restrictions: Employees will have no health or physical disability restrictions that interfere with the performance of duties.  This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is therefore subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations.  The additional immunization/ screening requirements for the risk of exposure to hepatitis virus (Hep B) and screening for tuberculosis (TB).

Responsibilities Include but are not limited to:

 

  • Provides outpatient health care to qualifying beneficiaries as scheduled by the Government.

  • Care shall include but not be limited to continuing, comprehensive health maintenance and medical care to the entire family regardless of sex, age, or type of problem.

  • Maintain a program of comprehensive health for the family unit, including preventive medicine, behavioral sciences, and community health.

  • May become the primary care manager for a panel of patients. A PCM will be the primary person responsible for the management of the health and wellness of assigned patients. Duties include:  Examination of patients, formulation of differential diagnostic plans, defining and orders required diagnostic testing; Interpretation of examination findings and test results, and implementation of treatment plans; Determining the need for consultation and assisting in medical care and treatment provided at the director of other specialists

  • Approving/disapproving subspecialty referrals.

  • Answering patient telephone consults with the assistance of clinic staff.

  • Providing primary and secondary preventive maintenance care.

  • Admit inpatients as per the local MTF instructions.

  • Diagnose and treat a wide range of pediatric and adult acute and chronic diseases and injuries

  • Adequately perform medical procedures to include, but not limited to, the following:

  • Basic Life Support

  • Advanced Life Support

  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support

  • Cricothyroidotomy

  • Secure and maintain an adequate airway including endotracheal intubation

  • Cardioversion of life-threatening arrhythmias

  • Simple minor surgical procedures

  • Ensure a safe work environment and employee-safe work habits.

  • Prepare records and reports as required in support of services rendered by established procedures.

  • Attend and participate in patient care reports, patient care conferences, team conferences, professional staff conferences, and other appropriate professional activities only to the extent that such attendance and participation are relative to assigned cases and/or performance of services.
