ASRC Federal Holding Company Heavy Equipment Mechanic - EVT in Shemya, Alaska

ASRC Federal Communications is seeking a Heavy Equipment Mechanic for our ISS2 contract supporting our Air Force customer. This position is located on Shemya Island in Alaska. This is a rotational position in which the selected employee will work a schedule with 3 months on-site at Earackson Air Station (EAS), located in Sheyma, AK and 1 month off unpaid. While working on-site, housing is provided in the form of a dormitory facility. All meals are furnished through the cafeteria. Transportation to Earackson Air Station (EAS), from Anchorage, AK is provided by government sponsored aircraft.

If you live outside of Anchorage, you are responsible for your own transportation to get to Anchorage, AK.

General Summary

The incumbent performs various functions and incidental services associated with maintenance and repair of an array of motorized and non-motorized vehicles and equipment, with special emphasis on emergency vehicles and apparatus. The incumbent performs these duties at a remote location on an island in the Alaskan Aleutian chain.

Essential Duties & Job Functions:

  • Determines preventative maintenance needs, provides necessary maintenance and repairs for all fire vehicles, including heavy fire apparatus, and equipment.

  • Checks operating efficiency of fire vehicles, heavy fire apparatus, and fire mechanical equipment.

  • Determines stock needs and orders and maintains replacement parts and supplies.

  • Repairs and adjusts engines, transmissions, brake systems, hydraulic systems, water pumps and accessories.

  • Ensures pump systems provide appropriate volumes of water at specified pressures during periodic and required annual pump testing.

  • Performs general maintenance of all fire equipment including oiling and lubricating various components.

  • Ensures fire apparatus conforms to commercial Department of Transportation and National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) standards.

  • Responds to emergency call outs and performs emergency field repairs on fire apparatus and related equipment.

  • Develops specifications for new fire apparatus and equipment.

  • Provides for overall management of the Fire Department fleet of emergency response apparatus, and staff/support vehicles.

  • Provides classroom and hands-on instruction to Fire Department personnel pertaining to maintenance and operation of fire apparatus and related equipment.

  • Assists the Fire Chief with the development of specifications for new fire apparatus and equipment.

  • Attends regular training to maintain basic and advanced skills and certifications.

  • Performs related duties like the above in scope and function as required

  • Performs emergency operations as required

  • Perform any other related duties as required• Analyzes malfunctions, and repairs, rebuilds, and maintains power equipment such as cranes, power shovels, scrapers, paving machines, motor graders, bulldozers, pumps, compressors, and pneumatic tools.

  • Inspects and tests fire apparatus, vehicles, and related equipment to ensure safe and efficient operating conditions.

  • Operates and inspects machines or equipment to diagnose defects.

  • Dismantles, cleans, and reassembles equipment using hoists, hand tools, and other equipment.

  • Examines parts for damage or excessive wear, using micrometers and gauges.

  • Replaces defective engines and subassemblies, such as transmissions.

  • Tests overhauled equipment to ensure operating efficiency.

  • Welds broken parts and structural members.

  • Performs normal maintenance on shop equipment and maintains cleanliness of shop area as required.

  • Serves as Fuel/Re-Supply Barge augmentee.

  • Performs snow removal duties as required.

  • Performs Emergency Response Team duties as needed.

  • Performs related work as assigned.

Requirements :

Job Requirements (Education, Experience, Professional Associations):

Mandatory

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

  • Successful completion of a formal motor vehicle mechanic apprenticeship. A combination of equivalent training and experience may be substituted for formal apprenticeship.

  • Five (5) years’ experience with heavy construction and snow removal equipment.

  • Four (4) years’ experience in a motor pool or commercial maintenance facility.

  • Three (3) years of experience in fire apparatus repair and maintenance work, and

  • Level 2 Fire Apparatus EVT Certification and Level 1 Ambulance EVT certification

  • T2 Truck, Diesel Engines, T4 Heavy-Duty Truck, Brakes, T5 Heavy-Duty Truck, Suspension & Steering, A-4 Suspension & Steering, A-5 Brakes Automotive/Medium Heavy-Duty Service Excellence (ASE) certifications; and,

  • F1 Maintenance, Inspection & Testing of Fire Apparatus, F2 Design & Performance Standards, E0 Inspection, Maintenance & Testing, E-1 Design and performance of Fire Apparatus/Ambulance Emergency Vehicle Technician (EVT) certifications.

  • Experience with ARFF vehicles.

  • Crane rigging/signal person certification.

  • Valid state driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.

  • Obtain and maintain a National Agency Check with Inquires

  • U.S. citizen.

  • Ability to successfully pass a pre-employment physical and drug test.

Preferred

  • Previous experience working on a military installation.

  • Previous experience working in a remote location.
