JOB REQUIREMENTS: Sensory Scientist - 51431 DESCRIPTION/RESPONSIBILITIES: Johnsonville, LLC Sensory Scientist Position Overview: Johnsonville has an excellent opportunity for a Sensory Scientist to join the Product Insights team within Research and Development. In this role you will work closely with product development and marketing to interpret key characteristics of our products and product categories. This will include consumer validation, identifying drivers of liking, product optimizations, and understanding key competitors. The end result is to help build a superior product portfolio through new products, line extensions and product improvements which extend the gap versus competitor products and help build brand dominance. Responsibilities: * Design research, execute tests, and present findings from a variety of product test methodologies. The Sensory Scientist is also responsible for consulting with both internal customers and external research partners to help guide marketing and/or product strategy, while leveraging past learnings to continuously improve the sensory testing process. * Help develop superior products by leveraging your knowledge and skill sets in Sensory Science, Consumer Insights, Food Science and Quality. It is expected that you will continuously develop your competencies in these areas so that you are able to make significant contributions to project teams in the areas of our base business, international, food service and innovation. * Challenge your ability to lead and manage multiple projects by applying best practice project management skills to keep projects advancing against rigorous timelines. You will have the opportunity to serve as a Subject Matter Expert in Sensory participating as a team member on cross-functional teams as well as lead selected projects. The main deliverable will be to effectively communicate a story utilizing the product research data and recommend actionable next steps to the project team. * Challenge your ability to influence others and develop strong relationships with other Members from Marketing, Manufacturing, Quality, Engineering, R&D, Packaging, Regulatory, and Supply Chain. * Be confident, creative, and flexible in developing solutions to research challenges. This includes reporting findings to a variety of audiences. * Comfortable presenting results with R&D project teams. * Continuously learn new skills and knowledge because the projects you work on will require you to constantly become more proficient in a wide range of areas. These areas include meat science, meat processing, packaging, and shelf life. In addition, you will be expected to develop competencies in project management and potentially market research. * Convey your wealth of scientific technological knowledge in a meaningful way as a mentor to other Johnsonville members. * Become recognized within Johnsonville as a resource for product testing needs. Members also have access to terrific benefits including affordable medical, dental and vision coverage; flexible spending accounts; dis bility and life insurance; and fer ***** OTHER EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS: Education: * Bachelors degree in Sensory Science, Food Science or other scientific discipline plus 3 years experience in Sensory Science required OR Masters degree with a focus on Sensory or similar sensory focused certificate course (such as UC Davis Sensory Certificate Course). Experience: * Experience with a Fortune 100 food company preferred * Demonstrated proficiency in analytical, conceptual and problem-solving skills, and knowledge of sensory methods and techniques (discrimination, descriptive and consumer test methods) * Proficiency in Sensory software programs (i.e. RedJade, Compusense, etc).
