Legal Lead, Commercial & Residential Fire

Position Description

  • As a leader for Commercial & Residential Fire Asia’s legal team and a key member of Commercial & Residential Fire global legal team, the position is envisioned to lead the overall management of legal matters for Commercial & Residential Fire Asia, and to supervise Legal Counsel/Legal Manager/Ethics & Compliance Officer of the covered businesses.

  • As Legal Director of Commercial & Residential Fire Asia, this individual will be responsible for managing all legal matters for the covered business, including but not limited to contract review/standardization/negotiation, dispute resolution management, corporate structural improvement, legal advisory on strategic issues, legal policies’ improvement/implementation, labor and employment matters, overseeing compliance initiatives and investigations. This individual will lead the legal team for Commercial & Residential Fire Asia to enhance the overall management of legal matters for the covered business, and work with different functions to support business growth and legal compliance.

  • This individual will be expected to provide sound legal advice and to act as a business partner and team leader dedicated to helping the covered business to achieve their goals while maintaining the highest legal and ethical standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the legal team of Commercial & Residential Fire Asia to facilitate internal benchmarking and best practice sharing, to enhance the overall quality and efficiency of legal support across Commercial & Residential Fire Asia, and to coach, develop, and retain talents for the Commercial & Residential Fire Asia’s legal team.

  • Responsible for all legal and Compliance matters pertaining to Commercial & Residential Fire Asia business. Draw upon significant experience and wise judgment to give practical, proactive, and business-oriented legal advices for the covered business, and work with different functions of Commercial & Residential Fire Asia business to achieve the business goals while maintaining the highest legal and ethical standards.

  • Detailed work will involve working with business leaders, peer functions (finance, human resources, operations and quality, business development, and others), and outside advisors (when needed) to provide legal support to the covered business, including but not limited contract review/standardization/negotiation, dispute resolution management, corporate structural improvement, legal advisory on strategic issues, legal policies’ improvement/implementation, labor and employment matters, taking lead and overseeing the compliance initiatives and investigations.

Criteria

  • Technical Skills: Minimum of 10 years of legal working experience required, foreign law firm experience and some in-house experience preferred. Experience with broad range of M&A transactions and/or anti-trust related matters preferred.

  • Management Skills: Able to lead and manage a diverse legal team, to provide the sense of purpose and define key missions for the legal team, and to create a collegial and efficient working environment. People-oriented, able to coach and help legal team members to grow and thrive, and to develop and retain legal talents for the organization.

  • Relationship Skills: Able to work both autonomously and as part of a team, demonstrating a collegial and productive manner. Can quickly build effective relationships with business clients and others at all levels throughout the organization, providing top-quality legal advice and service on a timely basis. Can be effective in a matrix environment. Energized, not threatened, by working with highly effective, competent colleagues. Experience in working in international environment.

  • Communication Skills: Bilingual English/Mandarin preferred. Other Asian languages a plus. Strong analytical, written and verbal skills. Able to produce clear, understandable guidance and direction geared for all audiences. Communicates effectively with and engages all levels of the organization verbally and in writing.

  • Results Orientation: Exhibits strong bias for action and results orientation; tackles tough problems with firm deadlines. Self-starter. Works well independently, but knows when to seek input or ask for guidance.

  • Management of Resources: Allocates time and resources efficiently, focusing on ever-shifting priorities. Able to prioritize conflicting demands from multiple business clients. Able to manage significant responsibility and diverse workload in a rapidly changing environment.
