This posting will be used to fill two limited Student Worker Para Professional positions. These positions will work part-time (20 hours per week). These temporary positions are anticipated to start approximately in October 2024 and go through approximately August 2027.

As a Student Worker you will help support the Water and Mining Section in the Industrial Division at the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA). One position will report to the Water Quality Permits Unit, the other will report to the Industrial Stormwater Unit. These positions exist to assist the Industrial Wastewater Permitting and Industrial Stormwater programs in data entry, accuracy, and assist in compliance and enforcement data needs. The primary duties include assisting the Water and Mining Section with document review and processing; entering program data into TEMPO including but not limited to permitting data or compliance data; reviewing, updating, and verifying existing monitoring data and annual report data in TEMPO; assisting compliance or permitting staff in various program activities; and/or other administrative or program project needs.

Minimum Qualifications

Post-secondary education student working on an environmental degree or related degree.

(To be eligible for appointment as a Student Worker you must be a student enrolled in an educational program or planning to enroll within three months. Students may be “off” for the summer or for one semester/quarter and remain employed as student workers, but such absences cannot exceed one semester/quarter in a year. As a student you must be enrolled in high school or in a postsecondary or graduate program. If a student is enrolled at a credit-granting institution he/she must carry at least six semester (nine quarter) credits. If enrolled at a non-credit granting institution or one that only offers one credit per class, a student must be taking two or more classes per semester/quarter. Any lesser credit (class) load shall be treated as a semester/quarter off. Graduate students must be enrolled in at least two courses or making progress on a dissertation. You will be asked to complete an Educational Verification form prior to appointment.)

Preferred Qualifications

Oral and written communication skills sufficient to communicate with internal and external customers.

Ability to work independently and with others.

Accomplished in using computer programs (Microsoft office products, outlook, tableau).

Ability to follow directions and carry-out detailed processes.

Physical Requirements

Requires occasionally lifting and/or carrying such articles as file folders, ledgers, and small equipment. Although a sedentary job is defined as one which involves sitting, a certain amount of walking and standing is often necessary in carrying out job duties.

Additional Requirements

Position duties may require travel, but driving is not a minimum qualification or essential function of this position. Employees who may drive for state business will need their driver's license checked prior to operating a state vehicle.
