THIS IS A 5 MONTH TEMPORARY/SEASONAL SUMMER POSITION WHICH REQUIRES WORKING ON WEEKENDS AND HOLIDAYS.

This position assists the Executive Director, Deputy Director and Investigator(s) in licensing, investigation, and enforcement of Minnesota Racing Commission statutes and rules regarding pari-mutuel horse racing, and pari-mutuel wagering. This position requires close internal communication with the MRC Executive Director, Deputy Director, and Investigator(s) as well as other staff members of the MRC. Close communication is required with Stewards, MRC veterinarians, racetrack management and staff. The position requires ongoing external communication and coordination of functions of law enforcement agencies on federal, state, county, and city level, state and local emergency services offices, medical facilities, racetrack security, and national and international racing organizations. Additionally, this position maintains external communications relative to MRC license applications and license holders for purposes of conducting comprehensive background investigations and ensuring compliance with statutes, MRC rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Ability to determine facts and be able to communicate determinations in a direct and prompt manner.

  • Computer skills, including word processing, spreadsheets, and database management sufficient to enter data, draft letters and complete data entry tasks. This also includes accurate entry of applicant, license, and fee information, sort data in spreadsheets, and create and manage reports.

  • Ability to effectively deal with internal and external constituents to include complainants, suspects, victims, and witnesses.

  • Ability to build good working relationships with those who require direction or support.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Pursuing or has completed a post-secondary diploma in criminal justice, para-legal, law enforcement or related discipline

  • Six (6) months of work experience in one of the following: inspections, investigations, law enforcement, legal, regulatory or a related field

  • Demonstrated experience applying statutory requirements to factual situations with a regulatory entity

  • Previous experience within the racing or gaming industry

  • Experience maintaining confidential materials

  • Experience communicating and work effectively with people from diverse cultural, economic and ethnic backgrounds

Physical Requirements

  • Involves frequent moving and positioning of self to accomplish work tasks

  • Requires working outdoors in all weather conditions

  • Involves moving through uneven terrain

Additional Requirements

Must pass the background check required for all employees of the Minnesota Racing Commission

Incumbent must maintain valid driver's license, and insurance, OR have other reliable transportation.
