We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Site Safety Manager to come and join our growing team! This position will be based out of Sacramento, CA with travel to jobsites in and around the bay area.

ABOUT THE JOB:

FD Thomas is seeking a Site Safety Manager , specifically focused on jobs in and around the bay area. This person will be someone who thrives in a collaborative environment and is passionate about safety while helping to achieve goals. This person will be responsible for pre-job planning, development, coordination, and enforcement of the corporate safety program.

Key Responsibilities include:

SAFETY, HEALTH & ENVIRONMENTAL COMPLIANCE:

  • Ensure a Safety Pre-job kick off is performed on each assigned project.

  • Develop, plan, administer, and implement site specific safety plans, safety submittals, JSA's, in accordance with government and client standards.

  • Competent knowledge and application of the principals of safety practice in the following areas:

  • Respiratory Protection

  • Fall Protection

  • Confined Space

  • Lead Abatement

  • Hazardous Communication

  • Industrial Hygiene

  • OSHA 500 standards

  • Ensure company procedures and policies meet government (federal, state, local safety laws, codes) compliance standards and ensure they are being observed.

  • Identify and apply government regulations and industry practice for IH and safety compliance.

  • Regularly review and evaluate industry specific safety methods and ensure the most current methods are being used in the workplace.

  • Immediately correct any unsafe condition; document and advise proper chain of command.

  • Maintain a system for reporting, monitoring, and correcting all safety problems.

  • Provide assistance to establish priorities and procedures to correct any safety violation.

  • Ensure appropriate documentation, follow-through and corrective actions taken for any safety related infraction.

  • Periodically assess the safety culture/compliance (i.e. weekly safety meetings, safety documentation, respirator storage, use and maintenance, confined space, hearing conservation, IH sampling/collection needs or issues or evaluation, at individual worksites and provide recommendations.

EMPLOYEE TRAINING:

  • Visits Jobsites at Start-Up, Ensuring Site Specific Orientation (Hazcom) and Training of employees per Site Specific Safety Plan.

  • Maintains accurate and complete records of all safety training and safety plans.

  • Conducts in-house Project Leader and Competent Person Training

  • Trains, counsels, and advises personnel on all safety issues through safety newsletters, memos, and meetings to establish a proactive approach to providing a safe working environment.

JOBSITE AUDITS & INCIDENT INVESTIGATIONS:

  • Perform site safety audits and recommendations as requested

  • Ensures that all assigned job sites and facilities are inspected on a regular basis for any conditions that pose potential safety problems. All site visits must be documented in writing.

  • Accompany employees of all agencies conducting safety and fire audits of facilities and job sites as requested.

  • Provide training to Project Leaders in how to accompany an inspector.

  • Accident and incident investigation, review, and report.

  • Reviews all accidents and incidents occurring to employees, visitors, subcontractors, and others on assigned projects.

  • Carefully investigates and analyzes reports from accident investigations to ascertain causes.

  • Manage Return to Work / Light Duty for Injured workers.

  • Liaison with AIS Workers Compensation Coordinator

  • COVID-19 Coordination

  • Ensure Site EHS Records are documented in Vista PM-08 Safety.

  • EHS application and software data entry into EHS Insight

  • Perform Audits of EHS Documentation in Vista

  • Ensure Employees onsite have required training/certifications for their scope of work

  • Run Audit Reports within Vista as needed (training, certifications, etc.)

INDUSTRIAL HYGIENE:

  • Works with CIH to monitor and control industrial hygiene, which relates to the long-term effects of factors such as exposure to noise, lighting, heat, humidity, air quality and any other health hazards.

  • Schedule, collect, and monitor IH samples.

  • Work with the CIH to evaluate and manage IH problems using proactive problem solving and work solutions.

  • Assist with calibration and upkeep of monitoring equipment.

ADDITIONAL:

  • Co-Chairs Safety Committee and maintains close communication with administration in matters of safety requiring management action.

  • Ensures Safety Committee meetings occur and are recorded as required. Assists in the activities of the safety committee by providing technical and administrative support when needed.

  • Provide weekly look ahead to Corp. EHS Director and update Shared Safety Calendar with activities.

  • Provide monthly report on Safety to Corp. EHS Director, Division Manager & President.

  • Attends weekly meetings with Corporate as requested.

  • Assists management in preparing safety policies and procedures; provides support in implementing these policies and procedures.

  • Assists with Subcontractor Safety Questionnaire's, Pre-Qualification Packets as requested and related to Safety.

  • While it is impossible to list every duty that may be asked of an employee, the Employer may ask that an employee do other duties as the business need arises.

In addition to your passion and purpose, to be successful in this Site Safety Manager role, you will possess the following:

  • OSHA 500 Certification

  • Must have a comprehensive knowledge of OSHA regulations for the construction industry.

  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP) from the Board of Safety Professionals.

  • Competent knowledge and application of the safety principles and practices listed above.

  • Must have a broad working knowledge in the theory and practice of IH including methods, procedures, and techniques used in collecting samples and testing for health hazards common in the industrial painting business.

  • Must be able to communicate technical information in a clear and concise manner.

  • Must have excellent writing abilities in the preparation and delivery of safety plans, reports, training materials, investigations, and other written correspondence.

  • Ability to effectively work with all levels of people from entry level laborers to Project Leaders, Division Managers, corporate office staff, and public officials.

  • No less than three (5) years' experience in Safety or IH management.

  • Computer proficient using Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Windows, Outlook, etc.)

  • Must be able to organize and prioritize work with minimal supervision.

Highly sought after experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in safety, industrial hygiene, or a related field of study

  • Five (5) years' experience in a similar position

  • Bilingual in English and Spanish
