Petro 49, Inc. dba Petro Marine Services Deckhand - Seward, Alaska in Seward, Alaska

Petro Marine Services has an immediate need for a skilled, professional and hard-working deckhand to work on a privately-owned yacht. This position is seasonal, five days a week, and is based out of Seward, Alaska. The person filling this position will perform a variety of operation and maintenance tasks that help the boat run optimally. For example, your duties will include cleaning machinery, preparing cabins, performing maintenance tasks, purchasing supplies, etc. Youll also help the boat prepare to depart. At times, you may assist guests with their fishing experience, from baiting and setting up their poles to netting fish and unloading them from the boat. You must be flexible and capable of carrying out a variety of cleaning and maintenance-related tasks both at sea and at port. Must keep the boat clean and capable of navigating the waters it operates on. To do well in this position, you will need to have some familiarity with the maritime industry. You should be good at working with your hands and capable of performing a variety of vessel maintenance and cleaning tasks with minimal supervision. Be a self-starter, attentive to details and possess the ability to work professionally with others. Be a non-tobacco user and drug free. Duties Include:

  • Maintaining the cleanliness and organization of the vessels exterior and interior
  • Performing manual tasks, such as cleaning, painting, and repairing equipment and machinery
  • Loading and unloading of supplies and operating various equipment for navigation and communication
  • Assisting the captain and other crew members with tasks and duties
  • Be personable, providing customer service to passengers and ensuring a pleasant experience

Key skills and qualifications:

  • Physical stamina and ability to perform manual labor. Ability to work long hours and spend the majority of the day on your feet.
  • Ability to perform as a lookout while traveling, docking, departing dock, etc., to watch for any potential hazards.
  • Strong communication and customer service skills.
  • Ability to work in a team and follow instructions.
  • Basic knowledge of the maritime industry, navigation and communication equipment.
  • Willingness to work in all climates.
  • Certifications and training in areas such as CPR, hazardous materials, and mooring lines can be beneficial.
