Johnson & Johnson Innovation is recruiting a Scientific Portfolio Engagement Lead, JLABS Korea. The goal of Johnson & Johnson Innovation is to advance transformative healthcare solutions that improve the lives of people around the world and, in so doing, to deliver value to Johnson & Johnson (“J&J”). The Scientific Portfolio Engagement Lead provides support to the Head of JLABS Korea in all aspects building a world-class scientific/technology portfolio for the region.

Responsibilities:

Regional Portfolio Management:

• Assess progress and priority of regional life science companies

• Identify potential transformational technologies and shape emerging science to address unmet needs

• Evaluate new technologies and companies for entry into JLABS Korea as well as coordinate all governance reviews

• Support the Head of JLABS Korea to build championship for the portfolio with internal and external partners, manage portfolio reporting, and information updates database systems

• Collaborate across broader J&J Innovation (e.g., Innovation Centers and JJDC) to support opportunity sourcing

• Collaborate with external partners, including industry professionals, trade associations, government, academia, key opinion leaders and potential sponsors to support opportunity sourcing and support for the regional life science ecosystem

Shaping the Local Scientific Ecosystem:

• Foster local academic, biotech, government and healthcare agency collaboration and awareness

• Lead scientific community outreach programs to engage local community with JLABS Korea

• Foster JLABS Korea reputation as a science driven organization externally and internally

• Leverage external experts (KOLs) to ensure portfolio is cutting-edge, help evaluate potential opportunities using an external lens, and help influence company creation in strategic areas of interest

• Identify partners who can play a role in company formation

Scientific Leadership:

• In collaboration with the Head of JLABS Korea and relevant partners, aid in portfolio selection and onboarding

• Mentor residents to ensure scientific milestones are accelerated and achieved and JPALS are appropriately matched to form impactful relationships

• Serve as scientific subject matter expertise for JLABS Korea press, events, government visits and internal processes

• Perform regular reviews and update on scientific programs of portfolio companies

Qualifications

• Ph.D. in a relevant life sciences field is required

• Bilingual, fluent in Korean and English

• 5-8 years of broad Pharma and/or MedTech R&D experience, preferably across multiple therapeutic areas and/or technologies is required

• Experience with startups for partnerships in industry to achieve milestones, alliance management, building fruitful partnerships with world-class KOLs, and working in an open innovation R&D capacity to leverage external opportunities for pipeline impact is preferred

• Experience in creating and evaluating IP portfolios/strategies is required

• Established track record working with cross-functional teams in a matrix environment and partnering with/managing stakeholders is required

• Excellent leadership, influencing, and decision-making skills, proven ability to foster team productivity and cohesiveness, acting as a change agent, adapting to rapidly changing organization and business environments is required

• This role is located in Korea with up to 10% travel is required.

This is a team-oriented position that plays an integral role in facilitating processes and procedures. She/he will also demonstrate the ability to work independently with minimal direction.
