About the Role

Legal & BI Manager will support the achievement of the Korea market growth strategy and Diageo’s Performance Ambition. This role will provide robust and efficient legal & BI support for long-term, balanced success, employing commercial competence, lateral thinking, outstanding risk management and brilliant execution. This role reports directly to Legal Director of Diageo Korea.

The top accountabilities are:

[LEGAL]

  • Support the Legal Director of Diageo Korea and provide day-to-day legal support and advice to all departments in Diageo Korea to enable Diageo to beat the competition and drive achievement of performance goals.

  • Draft, review, negotiate and advise on various legal documents including but not limited to contracts.

  • Advise on regulatory issues related to National Tax Service, Ministry of Food and Drug Safety, Fair Trade Commission, etc.

  • Carry out general legal research and monitor changes in the regulatory landscape.

  • Handle pending and threatened disputes.

  • Work collaboratively with other global teams such as IP, Antitrust, Data Privacy, Procurement, Brand Protection, Corporate Security, etc. for issues relevant to Diageo Korea.

  • Assist with development of team know-how and lead the processes for document and knowledge management, and records retention.

  • Manage external counsels and liaise external counsels as appropriate for expert advice in a cost-effective way.

[BUSINESS INTEGRITY]

  • Influence and advise senior stakeholders to maintain a strong tone-at-the-top, and reinforce accountability and awareness of the Business Integrity agenda.

  • Shape the market’s/function’s culture of integrity, which includes proactive risk identification and developing plans to effectively embed our Code and policies through tailored engagement interventions.

  • Act as a trusted advisor across all levels of the organisation to drive compliant behavior and provide decision support on risk, control, and compliance matters.

  • In partnership with Global BI and the Learning & Development team, ensure proper delivery of a risk-based training programme on our Code, policies and standards, and monitor effectiveness of the same.

  • Oversee the market’s/function’s breach management process (including publicising SpeakUp channels, supporting investigations as assigned, undertaking remediation management, and conduct a ‘root cause analysis’ to inform 'lessons learned' communications / engagement as needed.

  • Facilitate risk management activities, coordinate periodic governance forums (i.e. RMCs), and oversee automatic monitoring / analytics to enable simplified and proactive management of risk.

  • Use data related to compliance and the insights from such data to enable timely actions and decision making.

  • Facilitate market’s/function’s governance (compliance, risk, controls), such as the tracking and reporting of remediations for identified deficiencies within agreed upon time periods, and supporting submissions to the ARC and FAC.

  • Support the Global Controls Assurance (GCA) team in annual mapping of controls owners to help identify ownership changes since prior year.

  • Advise GCA as to the market’s/function’s unique risks, if any, for example, by sharing risk-based inputs on non-SOX scoping (as SOX scoping is fully handled by GCA) and the controls training agenda (as proposed and provided by GCA).

  • Inform relevant stakeholders as to impact of new regulations related to compliance and lead business change projects to embed same in the market or function.

  • Oversee business continuity/Business Continuity Management.

Qualifications

  • Qualified as a lawyer in Korea or in an English-speaking jurisdiction

  • 5 7 years of experience in law firms or in-house, experience in alcohol industry is a plus

  • Strong expertise in regulations and laws with extensive knowledge of business transactions

  • High level of accuracy in work, attentiveness to details

  • Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced environment

  • A team player with strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Strong dedication to personal growth and capability building

  • High level of integrity

  • Proficiency in both Korean and English
