Alamo Group Inc. Manufacturing Specialist in Seguin, Texas

Position Summary:

The Manufacturing Specialist is a work-study sponsored position in collaboration with the Texas FAME program and the Texas State Technical College (TSTC). The position will work part time (3 days/week) and attend classes through TSTC for the remainder, all under the sponsorship of Alamo Group TX. The role will work under the direct supervision of the Manufacturing Manager and Production Supervisors to gain hands on exposure to the various manufacturing roles of the plant, including welding, material handling, metal fabrication and assembly.

Essential Functions of the Job:

  1. Support the maintenance team with diagnostic, troubleshooting and repair/building various plant-wide projects that cover electrical, carpentry, plumbing, etc. skilled trade areas.

  2. Build the working and operating knowledge of the various manual, CNC, press brake, saw and plasma/laser cutting machines.

  3. Develops ability to Layout, fit and weld fabricated steel frames and metal parts on production floor using previously set up mig welding equipment.

  4. Measures and mark’s locations for metal components on assembly table following blueprints.

  5. Verifies position of metal components in assembly using measuring instruments: straight edge, combination square, calipers or ruler.

  6. Develops the working knowledge of our product line in terms of part inventory and material handling, assembly in accordance with our blueprints and installation of mount kits.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSA’s):

  1. General knowledge and coursework dedicated to a manufacturing trade

  2. Manual dexterity; mechanically inclined and good hand/eye coordination

  3. Troubleshooting skills or aptitude

  4. Good communications skills, both verbal and written.

  5. Knowledge of and ability to use both powered and hand tools.

Education and Experience:

  1. Currently accepted and enrolled in the TX FAME/TSTC program

  2. Must be 18 years or older of age

  3. Shop math skills required; ability to read a tape measure.

  4. Mechanical aptitude preferred.

Working Conditions:

  1. Ability to lift, push or pull up to 35 pounds alone and greater than 35 pounds with assistance.

  2. Must be able to stand for extended periods of time (up to 8+ hours) as required by tasks being completed.

  3. Ability to wear appropriate PPE, including hearing/eye protection, gloves and safety shoes.

  4. Must be able to work overtime as needed to complete job assignments.

  5. Ability to work in a non-climate controlled manufacturing plant environment.

  6. Must be able to work in confined spaces.

  7. Must be able to tolerate heights.

  8. Frequent walking, bending, stooping, reaching and climbing as required by tasks being completed.
