STATE FAIR COMMUNITY COLLEGE Student Success Coach in SEDALIA, Missouri

Position Summary:The TRiO Student Success Coach is responsible for the successful retention, advising, and transfer of approximately 80 TRiO SSS students. The TRiO SSC teaches courses, coordinates activities, as well as meticulously documents student participation for the federal TRiO Student Support Services Grant. This position is contingent upon continued grant funding per the Department of Education.

Essential Functions and Duties:

Under general supervision:

  • Provides advising related to academics, degree planning, financial aid/scholarships, career counseling, financial literacy, soft skills, helping students with disabilities obtain accommodations and other support actions as necessary for the program
  • Implements retention initiatives to retain students in the program
  • Provides guidance/support to help students overcome barriers and accomplish their academic goals
  • Provides transfer assistance to students transferring to four-year colleges to pursue a Bachelors degree
  • Assists with identifying, recruiting, interviewing and selecting students for the program
  • Assists with promotion, marketing, and recruitment activities for the program
  • Assist in program development and evaluation for continuous improvement
  • Develops and presents workshops for program participants
  • Arranges and participates in cultural enrichment activities for program participants
  • Maintains comprehensive records of services provided and program participant contacts
  • Teaches TRiO Skills courses
  • Assists in the input and maintenance of program data in the database system
  • Develops individualized academic success and degree plans for participants
  • Registers students in courses each semester
  • Coordinates and participates in campus visits to 4-year colleges and universities
  • Coordinates and supervises the TRiO Mentor Program and co-facilitates the TRiO Student Organization
  • Advocates for the success of program participants by collaborating with faculty/staff and serving on appropriate campus committees

The preceding duties are provided as examples of the essential types of work performed by this position. Management reserves the right to add, modify, change or rescind work assignments as needed.

Qualifications:

Experience- Two years experience in academic advising, assessing, instructing, tutoring, and/or assisting in an educational setting involving student activities, confidence-building experiences and fostering leadership skills. Experience working with similar populations or in a TRiO program preferred.

Education- Bachelors degree required, in education (preferred), counseling or related field.Masters degree preferredin education, counseling, social work, or higher education administration.

Skills/Experience:Academic advising, financial aid, college admissions, degree requirements, career counseling, student development theory, academic study skills, transfer processes, disability services and best practice models, which address barriers for first generation and low-income students.

Ability to:Communicate effectively with diverse populations of students, faculty and staff. Demonstrate sensitivity to the needs of economically and educationally disadvantaged individuals, as well as students with disabilities. Coordinate and evaluate the activities of students by identifying measures of system performance and the actions needed to improve performance.

Standard Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., occasional nights and weekends

Travel Requirements:Some travel is required. Student Success Coaches accompany students on campus visits and cultural enrichment activities that may require overnight travel. Professional development may also necessitate travel that may include overnight travel.

Salary Range: Contingent upon education and experience
