The Vice President of Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS), is responsible for designing, implementing, and continuously improving the safety, health and environmental strategies for the company globally. This is achieved by implementing targeted personnel, process, environmental and industrial health/hygiene programs across the enterprise and holding direct accountability for the promotion and sustainment of the safety culture and environmental stewardship of the company. The successful candidate will have a deep knowledge of applicable regulatory and management systems and their requirements, and can translate those requirements into appropriate site-specific policies, procedures, and practices. They will identify and appraise conditions that could produce environmental, safety and health incidents and/or financial losses and design and implement programs to minimize the probability and severity of each. They will ensure world-class regulatory and site-specific training for both new hires and existing employee across all functions is delivered and assimilated. They will oversee accurate emission, waste, and release record keeping and reporting and oversee all company location’s safety and environmental activities. This position will lead and manage the internal EHS team, external resources, and will strongly partner with leaders at all organizational levels with the goal of optimizing the Company’s EHS performance. This position reports directly to the Chief Operating Officer.

WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING :

-Develop and refine the Company’s overall EHS strategy, in alignment and in support of the broader business strategy of the company and its stated core values.

-Ensure that the EHS strategy is translated into operational action plans, in conjunction with the operations, R&D, and line management.

-Build and lead a world-class, cross-functional team of EHS professionals in close coordination with business leadership to support the global footprint and local needs of the company and its operations.

-Mentor and develop talent within the team and as candidates to the broader organization.

-Develop and implement a comprehensive EHS management system.

-Manage all environmental permit related activities to ensure compliance with all existing emission and operating limits. Lead in securing new permits and allowances globally to support the organization’s aggressive growth plans.

-Participate in thorough reviews of all major capital programs and projects, offering safety and environmental compliance knowledge and guidance, ensuring the end result is a safer process that minimizes facility environmental impacts.

-Maintain and enhance relationships with local, state/provincial, and federal regulatory bodies globally, ensuring the Company is a leader in the industry and business community.

-Provide leadership, counsel, training, and interpretation of regulatory and permit requirements to company leadership and all employees.

-Oversee comprehensive training programs in occupational health and safety, industrial hygiene, and environmental regulatory and management system programs.

-Lead the development, updating, and management of workplace safety programs, and environmental procedures and policies.

-Audit, analyze, and report EHS performance to internal and external stakeholders and regulatory bodies.

-Promote and raise awareness, at all levels of the company organization, of the impact of emerging environmental, safety and health issues, whether legislative or best practice, on corporate, ethical, and social responsibility.

-Lead the organization in the identification, quantification, and management of various EHS risks.

LOCATION/TRAVEL :

This position will be based in Seattle, WA with travel (up to 30%) as required, including international travel. The ability to travel on short notice

may occasionally be required.

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR :

-Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Science, Safety Management, or Environmental Management (or similar) from a four-year college or university. Experience equivalent to these degrees will be considered. Master’s degree preferred but not required.

-At least 15+ years’ related experience in the chemical, materials, or energy industries.

-At least 10+ years’ experience with direct EHS leadership/oversight on chemical, materials, or energy operations. Multi-site and global experience required.

-EHS professional certification preferred (QEP, CEP, ASP, CSP, CIH, etc.)

-Competent in the use of computer software applications used for EHS monitoring and administration, including GSuite, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook, DCS data historians, CEMS software, and regulatory agency automated reporting programs.

-Extensive knowledge of local, state, federal, and appropriate international compliance regulations and experience effectively interacting directly with regulatory agencies.

-Proven leadership skills to champion and promote environmental stewardship in support of the organization’s core values and maintaining permanent, consistent compliance with all environmental requirements.

-Demonstrated innovation mindset, not limited by already acquired knowledge, with ability to drive and coordinate several concurrent projects, managing own time and the time of the team to deliver against competing demands.

The annual base salary range for this position is $200,000 - $250,000. All positions come with a company bonus and stock options. The actual base pay offered depends on a variety of factors, which may include, the applicant’s qualifications for the position; years of relevant experience; specific and unique skills; level of education attained; certifications or other professional licenses held; other legitimate, non-discriminatory business factors specific to the position; and the geographic location in which the position is located.
