SSD develops next-generation concepts and systems to advance our future of living and working in space sustainably. SSD Formulation team is multidisciplinary covering power systems, simulation and environments, thermal and fluids management, guidance, navigation, and control (GNC), autonomy, command and control, data handling and instrumentation, electrical integration and avionics, and propulsion. Deploying this team to serve the various projects, studies, and programs in a rapid formulation design environment will be a key responsibility while also contributing technically as an individual contributor sharing your expertise. Our group in Formulation is employing a fast-paced agile process to rapidly address early formulation work through a series of three-week sprints. This position will help lead assignments in this dynamic environment as well as be an active participant. To be successful you must embrace the right culture of bias for action while quickly delivering results. The decisions made early on will set Blue Origin up for long-term success. It also requires comfort with ambiguity and an ability to find a path forward. Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering or other relevant fields. 2+ years of relevant experience Expertise in thermal analysis and thermal response tools such as thermal desktop/Sinda Fluint, Ansys). Experience developing models and post-processing using Matlab and Python. Familiarity with spacecraft thermal control system and thermal environments in space. Familiarity working with mission design parameters to drive thermal control system requirements and design. Ability to communicate complex technical concepts and challenges with other engineering disciplines to drive effective decisions. Experience working directly with system and design engineers. Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion. Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum. Preferred Qualifications: Experience with spacecraft radiator and associated sub-system design and analysis. Experience with setting up test fixture for evaluation of thermal control system performance. Experience with pumped fluid loop system (design and analysis). Experience with heat pipe design, analysis and vehicle integration.
