The Student Engagement Department has an outstanding opportunity for a Student Sustainability Coordinator to join their team.

Sustainability at UW Tacoma (UWT) encompasses the environmental, economic and social impacts of our 46-acre, urban-serving university campus. The present and future well-being of students, faculty, staff, alumni and the larger community are inextricably linked to how we manage finite resources. Sustainability at UW Tacoma is concerned with the micro and the macro. From composting strategies to combating science illiteracy, the sustainability ethos can be found in facility management, curriculum design and student activism.

The Student Sustainability Coordinator will promote student participation and leadership in activities that address environmental sustainability and social justice for UWT and our community. Similar to the Campus Sustainability Fund (CSF) on the Seattle campus, this position will provide consistent and strategic leadership on student-led sustainability projects. This position reports to the Director of Student Involvement & Leadership and works alongside the UW Tacoma Sustainability Committee.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Maintain the Husky Sustainability Fund according to developed bylaws – 40% • Maintain an application system of receiving, funding, and tracking grant proposals. • Chair and organize the Husky Sustainability Fund Committee to meet throughout the year to review large grant proposals. • Annually submit SAFC (Services and Activities Fund Committee) proposal for continued and expanded funding for the Husky Sustainability Fund program, sta?, and student positions and track the SAFC budget associated with the Husky Sustainability Fund and student sustainability program. • Annually submit a SAFC special allocations proposal to increase student minimum wage and supplement the grant fund and programming costs. • Oversee all aspects of each approved project, including awarding funding, purchasing /procuring project materials, reconciling project purchases with approved proposal, and ensuring project implementation aligns with proposal specifications. • Present about the Husky Sustainability Fund and sustainability projects to stakeholders including in academic classes, community partners, and staff/faculty meetings. • Develop policies including funding guidelines and project monitoring requirements associated with the Husky Sustainability Fund and other aspects of the sustainability program. • Manage outreach and communication of the Husky Sustainability Fund across the campus community with an emphasis on students and promoting student participation and well-being. • Promote social, cultural, economic, and environmental elements of sustainability to students. • Coordinate meetings/communication between students, faculty, and campus departmental partners. • Liaise with campus partners, such as Facilities Services, Center for Equity and Inclusion, Center for Student Involvement: SAB, Husky Volunteers, Ledger, Giving Garden, and ASUWT, Student Affairs, The Pantry, Undocu Initiatives, and Office of Community Partnerships.

Supervising – 20% • Hire and manage three students working in Sustainability Assistant positions. • Meet with all students weekly, run team meetings, and communicate with students about expectations and administrative needs. • Oversee student work, including but not limited to Updates of Husky Sustainability Fund website, Outreach and communication, Project research and implementation, Event Coordination and support, Proposal writing and support, and Student professional development.

Planning and Programming – 20% • Facilitate high-level inclusion of HSF projects within UW’s capital planning & development processes. • Collaborate with university planning managers to integrate sustainability priorities?into facilities and other campus-wide plans and initiatives. • Identify emerging opportunities for new projects, application of technologies, approaches, programs, partnerships, and funding sources. • Maintain and assess the Sustainability Leadership Certificate program • Collaborate with faculty, staff, and community partners to present dialogues and seminars each quarter • Coordinate volunteer hours and community collaborators • Build program requirements and outreach materials • Facilitate student meetings, award certifications, and organize communication about requirement deadlines

Diversity, Equity and Inclusion – 10% • Work to ensure that considerations of diversity, equity and inclusion are considered and integrated into all sustainability projects and programming, including the impact of projects as well as their scope. • Pursue and implement projects that have considered UW Tacoma’s diverse community of students, faculty and staff. • Build collaborative partnerships with departments and groups focused on building inclusive and equitable spaces and programs on campus.

Track SAFC/Husky Fund budget and provide reports – 5% • Track and manage the budget for the Husky Sustainability Fund and Sustainability Leadership Certificate. • Create an annual report for Husky Sustainability Fund projects submitted to SAFC and ASUWT; make available to the campus community digitally. • Sit on UWT Sustainability Committee as a voting member and regularly report activities to the group. • Track qualitative and quantitative success (promotion of sustainability events, developments, attendance, energy savings, etc.) of funds and projects.

Duties as Assigned- 5% • This position acts as a member of the larger Center for Student Involvement (CSI) team. As such, they will be expected to support larger shared office events, provide support as needed throughout the quarter for general office operations, and support other team member’s initiatives. • Offer support for shared office events including OSCARS, Block Party, Welcome Days Events, Commencement, etc.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

• Earned Bachelor's Degree by time of appointment in Environmental Studies, Sustainability, or other related field • 1 year experience in sustainability related work

Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration. ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

• Knowledge of Microsoft O?ce (Access, Excel, Outlook PowerPoint, Word) • Demonstrated experience interacting with people from diverse racial, ethnic, and economic backgrounds.
