Nordstrom Sr. Network Engineer 2 – Network and Security Services - Hybrid - Seattle in Seattle, Washington

Job Description

Join our dynamic Network Engineering Team as a Sr. Network Engineer and contribute to our company's transformative journey in reshaping how we conduct business. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in designing, implementing, and managing complex network infrastructures in both on-premises data centers and cloud environments. As a key Engineering team member, you will provide technical leadership in planning, executing, and supporting strategic initiatives, focusing on the development of our retail, corporate and ecommerce networks. In this strategic role, you will shape our technology direction and influence critical decisions across the organization.

Responsibilities:

  • Design, implement, and manage network infrastructure across multiple data centers and cloud providers.

  • Develop and maintain network architecture and design documentation.

  • Ensure high availability and disaster recovery capabilities for all network services.

  • Monitor network performance and troubleshoot issues to ensure optimal performance.

  • Collaborate with cloud architects to integrate network services with cloud-based solutions.

  • Implement and manage network security measures, including firewalls, VPNs, and intrusion detection/prevention systems.

  • Automate network configuration and management tasks using tools such as Ansible, Terraform, or equivalent.

  • Conduct regular network assessments and audits to identify areas for improvement.

  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior network engineers.

  • Stay current with emerging technologies and industry trends to drive continuous improvement.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s in computer science, engineering, or a related field.

  • 10+ years of progressive enterprise network engineering experience with deep technical knowledge across multiple network technology domains (e.g., Routing, switching, security, virtualization).

  • Extensive experience with network design and implementation in both on-premises and cloud environments (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud, etc.).

  • Proven track record in designing and delivering large-scale network solutions for diverse business stakeholders.

  • Effective communication skills, capable of driving business strategy while managing technical complexity.

  • Experience developing and maintaining effective partnerships with customers, stakeholders, and technical leaders.

  • High energy and positive outlook, with a resourceful problem-solving approach and a passion for continuous improvement.

  • Experience performing network traffic analysis, security architecture reviews, and evaluating network security solutions.

  • Strong fundamental knowledge of OSI layers 1-4, routing protocols (e.g., OSPF, BGP), switching (e.g., STP, VxLAN, EVPN), firewalls, enterprise wireless, and cloud networking.

  • Experience in SDWAN technologies and how they are designed, implemented, and supported. Key experience in traffic steering analysis.

  • Experience in developing network architecture and technology, building and maintaining high-performance data center networks, and scaling network engineering in distributed systems.

  • Familiarity with automation workflows, processes, and configuration management for enterprise network devices.

  • Experience presenting and working with leadership at all levels.

  • Proficiency in driving network automation and developing process models to enhance network operations.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with software-defined networking (SDN) and network function virtualization (NFV).

  • Industry certifications such as CCIE, AWS Certified Advanced Networking, or equivalent are highly desirable

  • Familiarity with DevOps practices and tools.

  • Knowledge of container networking (Kubernetes, Docker).

  • Understanding of compliance and regulatory requirements related to network security.

Pay Range Details

The pay range(s) below are provided in compliance with state specific laws. Pay ranges may be different in other locations.

Washington: $141,000 - $258,000 Annually

This position may be eligible for performance-based incentives/bonuses. Benefits include 401k, medical/vision/dental/life/disability insurance options, PTO accruals, Holidays, and more. Eligibility requirements may apply based on location, job level, classification, and length of employment.
