Amazon Sr. Manager, Data Engineering, Seller Insights & Planning in Seattle, Washington
Description
The Seller Insights and Planning organization’s mission is to make FBA the best place for sellers to both thrive and delight customers. We achieve this through identifying opportunities to address seller pain points, optimizing our services to reduce seller effort, eliminating the defects that lead to seller costs, and orchestrating initiatives across business, technology and operations that simplify the seller experience.
This newly created role is focused on establishing and leading a team, within the Seller Insights and Planning organization, with a mission to make standardized FBA performance data available at any granularity to business, product, and engineering users across stores teams worldwide. This centralized platform will serve as a source of truth for evaluating business performance, determining business insights, and making recommendations to senior leadership. In this role, you'll lead a team through maintaining and establishing a data lake that standardizes how the Worldwide FBA organization evaluates business performance. With three customer user types, API, SQL, and non SQL, youll be responsible for delivering a platform that exceeds targets for availability, performance, and accuracy. In this manager role, youll directly lead a team of one data data engineer, one BIE, and five business analysts and indirectly lead driving engineering collaboration efforts across engineering teams distributed internationally.
Key job responsibilities
Building and maintaining a widely accessible data lake and datasets that serve as the centralized metric platform for the Worldwide FBA business by using software engineering best practices, data storage principles, and operational excellence best practices
Establishing and achieving targets for dataset availability, performance, and accuracy
Leading direct and indirect teams through building datasets that analysts and scientists use to generate actionable insights.
Guiding and influencing data engineering, business intelligence, and business analyst teams across Worldwide Stores into how to present and access data across pipelines
Providing thought-leadership to Amazon leadership and business partners, delivering solutions to strategic problems
Communicating performance against goals and objectives through narratives and business reviews
Managing a data engineering, business intelligence, and business analyst team of up to 10 headcount
Basic Qualifications
Proficiency with SQL, Excel, and at least one programming language such as Python, Scala, or R
Knowledge of data engineering pipelines, cloud solutions, ETL management, databases, visualizations and analytical platforms
Experience leading and hiring a team of data engineers, business intelligence engineers, and business analysts
Bachelor’s degree in a quantitative area such as math, statistics, computer science, engineering or equivalent experience
8+ years of experience in analytics, data engineering, market research, or related field
8+ years experience owning/driving roadmap strategy and definition
Excellent oral and written communication skills including the ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in designing and delivering cross-functional custom reporting solutions.
Advanced skills in data visualization applications like Amazon QuickSight, Tableau, or similar BI tools
Experience with AWS technologies like Redshift, S3, AWS Glue, EMR, Kinesis, FireHose, Lambda, along with IAM roles and permissions
Experience with non-relational databases / data stores such as object storage, document or key-value stores, graph databases, or column-family databases

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $182,100/year in our lowest geographic market up to $314,800/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
