This position is remote, candidates may be required on occasion to visit the local office when/if needed. This position is located in our Los Angeles, Palo Alto, San Francisco, San Diego, Chicago, Dallas, or Houston office.

Minimum Requirements:

  • High School or GED

  • 10 years’ demonstrated experience in IP docketing

  • Strong computer skills with patent docketing software, preferably PATTSY.

  • Strong Adobe and Excel skills

  • Strong substantive knowledge of US, PCT and Foreign docketing law and requirements

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to interact with attorneys and paralegals

  • Strong attention to detail

  • Strong reading comprehension skills

  • Ability to identify and analyze complex issues and recommend and/or implement solutions

  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment

What will your day look like?

As a Sr IP Docketing Specialist, you will generate and review a variety of reports for enforcement and prosecution matters upon requests from the attorney team and clients. You will maintain the docketing database by updating and clearing items. You will communicate with the attorney team for any additional information required. You will work with the attorney team in implementing docketing policies, procedures, and practices to fulfill patent docketing functions. You will also act as a resource to attorneys and paralegals by providing docketing guidance and expertise.

Furthermore, you will take the lead in the enhancement, integrity, and maintenance of the patent database. In addition, you will address and resolve issues relating to the database. You will perform patent docketing duties including but not limited to processing new client/matter file intake and review. You will review and prepare client/matter files for transfer out of the firm to other counsel, as well as review and inventory files transferred into the firm as necessary.

Additionally, you will participate in special docketing projects for paralegals and attorneys. You will ensure that docketing policies and procedures are being followed and are met on a daily basis. You will be responsible for improving workflow efficiencies, accuracy of docketing information in CPI. You will regularly and effectively participate in discussions and communicates with team members and attorneys on patent docket standards, protocol and procedures to ensure understanding and compliance within the IP patent group. You will also provide guidance and training support to other IP docketing team members, as necessary.

Physical Demands, Work Environment, and Other Requirements

Sedentary work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally, and all other sedentary criteria are met.

The expected pay range for this position, if hired to work in Palo Alto or San Francisco is $49.41 – $71.64 per hour. If hired to work in Los Angeles, San Diego, or Seattle the expected pay range is $45.29 - $65.67 per hour. Non-exempt positions will be paid on an hourly basis and paid overtime in accordance with applicable laws. The compensation offered to a candidate selected for employment will be dependent upon various factors, including the candidate’s geographic market, skills, educational and professional background, experience, and overall qualifications. We offer a comprehensive package of benefits including paid time off, medical/dental/vision insurance, and 401(k).
