The UW School of Medicine has an outstanding opportunity for a SoM Accounting and Reporting Analyst to join their team.

The University of Washington School of Medicine (SoM) is nationally and internationally recognized for excellent programs in clinical care, teaching, and research activities. POSITION PURPOSE Under limited direction, The SoM Accounting and Reporting Analyst (SoM ARA) is responsible for ensuring the accurate preparation and analysis of the School of Medicine’s financial statements (balance sheet and income statement) according to Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB). The SoM ARA will provide assurance SoM transactions are properly monitored, recorded, analyzed and reconciled. This includes the preparation and reconciliation of complex intercompany transfers between SoM, UW Medicine, and the Academy. The SoM ARA is also responsible for working with appropriate SoM departmental finance staff in guiding them during the monthly/yearly closing process.

The Sr Director of Finance will rely on this position to be the subject matter expert on all accounting issues and as such must exhibit superior accounting, and analytical skills as well as the ability to function both independently and in a team environment. They are required to communicate effectively in order to explain complex transactions and accounting issues, often in ways that can be understood by nonaccountants. The position also communicates with departments across the University regarding accounting issues and guidance, and regarding updates and changes to the accounting processes.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Representative elements of the SoM ARA’s duties and responsibilities include the following: Accounting, Analysis, & Fiscal Oversight (75%): • The SoM ARA is responsible for supporting the accurate and timely preparation SoM financial reports according to GASB standards. This includes gathering, analyzing, and reporting financial data and results where underlying data often originates from Workday and multiple sources. Findings derived from this data will play a crucial role in executive-level decision making. • Timely reconciliation, research, and resolution of assigned balance sheet accounts. • Preparation of well supported transactions in the form of journal entries and journal vouchers. • Record allocations and transfers of costs to other UW and UW Medicine entities; ensure inter-affiliate and funding transactions remain in balance. • Monitor accounting activities with a focus on consistency in accounting treatment used across SoM departments, internal controls, process improvement, service enhancement and workflow efficiencies. • Use UW administrative system tools including, for example, Workday, and the Enterprise Data Warehouse to extract and download system data for analysis. • Support and continually improve SoM accounting processes. • Performs other duties as assigned.

SoM Departmental Support (25%): • Serve as a subject matter expert to the departments within the SoM to support Workday accounting processes, research and analyze data and trends, explain accounting treatments and results, interpret, and implement new accounting requirements, etc. • Work with a diverse group of individuals; placing a value on diversity, equity, and inclusiveness. • Create ad-hoc reports that help departments address their Workday financial questions and/or root-cause problem-solving. • Outreach, collaboration, and support to SoM department financial leaders across campus. • Responsibilities include understanding the business purpose, strategy, and drivers behind financial results, and creating and analyzing variance reports. • Assist Sr Director of Finance in developing and implementing dashboards, key business and financial metrics, and/or productivity platforms. • Assist Sr Director of Finance in the development of departmental policies and procedures to maintain and improve adherence to university, state, and federal rules and regulations. • Heavy involvement in SoM-wide process and policy changes. This may include developing reports and analysis which are provided to leaders to inform of changes and/or impact SoM finances.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field and at least 5 years of experience in full scope accounting, including use of data analysis tools. • Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Excel including the ability to design, build, document and maintain complex workbooks in a user-friendly, intuitive, and logical manner.

Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration. DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS • Experience in public accounting. • CPA license or demonstrated progress toward CPA designation.
