Amazon Software Development Manager, AWS Redshift in Seattle, Washington

Amazon Redshift is a rapidly growing, fast and powerful, fully managed, petabyte-scale data warehouse service in the cloud. It enables our customers to dramatically increase their performance when analyzing data sets of virtually any size using the same SQL-based business intelligence tools they use today. They can launch a fully operational service with a few clicks for as low as under $1000 per terabyte per year. Amazon Redshift is the fastest and most widely used cloud data warehouse, yet we are constantly improving our service based on our customers’ needs across all areas of the service.

This job opportunity is in the Redshift Services Team that builds distributed systems to manage and orchestrate Redshift clusters worldwide. Our team focuses on providing Redshift customers with high availability through intelligent operations and cost-utilization systems that minimize downtime while enabling industry-leading price\performance. At the same time, we continuously improve Redshift usability and performance through API-based access and, and intelligent query analysis and cluster usage recommendations. You will have a tremendous opportunity to touch both the Redshift database core engine as well as tackling large scale, distributed system problems on a daily basis. We are searching for a Software Development Manager with passion for building large-scale, highly available applications for Redshift customers. Basic Qualifications

  • 3+ years of engineering team management experience

  • 7+ years of working directly within engineering teams experience

  • Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations

  • Experience partnering with product and program management teams

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers

  • Experience managing a team of high calibre Software Engineers developing complex, world class, scalable software systems that have been successfully delivered to customers

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $148,000/year in our lowest geographic market up to $287,700/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered, equity, sign-on payments, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits.
