Job Summary

The Senior Accountant provides senior-level accounting expertise and support to the organization. The position manages the month-end closing process, maintains the general ledger, performs account reconciliations, serves as the accounting system subject matter expert, oversees revenue integrations, and assists with key section of external audit and reports to outside agencies. Collaborates with the AO Director of Administration to provide leadership to YMCA branch business staff. Understands and implements GAAP in a variety of business situations.

    Hiring Range: $85,000 - $96,000 annually

Responsibilities

  • Manages the month-end and year-end financial closing process. Oversee and maintain the month end check list of the full accounting team, review and approve journal entries, oversee general ledger integrations from external software systems, and maintain accounting software periods.

  • Ensures that the general ledger and segment organization structure is kept current in the accounting and budgeting software systems. Work closely with the BI and Finance teams to ensure tools stay aligned via automated integrations.

  • Reviews and reconciles general ledger accounts as assigned.

  • Ensures timely production and distribution of financial statements. Ensures accuracy in financial statements. Review variances to budget and forecast prior to financial statement publication.

  • Serve as Accounting team project team member on corresponding revenue software system conversions.

  • Partner with the AO Director of Administration to oversee revenue system write offs, charge backs, and outstanding balance management.

  • Serve as main point of contact for the Accounting Help email box.

  • Supports the Controller with sections of the annual audit, including external financial statement preparation and select audit schedules.

  • Prepares assigned sections of the annual 990 federal tax return.

  • Prepares tax returns including unclaimed property, property taxes, and other tax returns as assigned.

  • Support finance team with budget and forecasting process.

  • Other duties as assigned including Y-USA annual reporting, annual filings with Washington State and bond compliance reporting support.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance degree preferred.

  • 8 years of experience in accounting or finance.

  • Demonstrated understanding of GAAP.

  • Excellent computer skills which include knowledge of Accounting and Financial software systems and Microsoft Office products, especially Excel.

  • Superior analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Exceptional attention to accuracy and detail, strong organizational skills.

  • Deadline oriented.

    PREFERRED POSITION ATTRIBUTES AND SKILLS

  • CPA or CMA preferred.

  • Knowledge of and previous experience with diverse populations (language, culture, race, physical ability, sexual orientation, etc.).

  • Language proficiency in addition to English
