AWS Route 53 is a highly available and scalable Domain Name System (DNS) service offered by Amazon Web Services. We operate in over 50 locations worldwide and provide advanced functionality such as latency-based routing (LBR), Private DNS, Geo DNS routing, DNS failover, and integration with Amazon CloudFront, Amazon S3, and Amazon Elastic Load Balancing. On top of that, we offer fast change propagation with a 100% availability SLA. Our service is quickly growing and we're expanding in multiple directions: adding new features and functionality to our DNS services, better traffic management, new AWS integrations, improving our health check capabilities, and expanding with new services in the naming and routing space. AWS Route 53 is looking for experienced Senior Software Development Engineer to join our Platform Team, which provides edge compute infrastructure and platform optimization for Route 53 services. In this role you will design, develop, and operate systems to support our global fleet and serve as a role model and mentor to the team. The ideal candidate has deep experience working with large scale distributed systems, networking and infrastructure, low level linux internals and optimization using kernel bypass techniques with tools such as DPDK and eBFP. You raise the bar for engineering excellence and thrive in a highly collaborative, creative, analytical, and fast-paced environment.

Basic Qualifications

• 5+ years of non-internship professional software development experience

• 5+ years of programming with at least one software programming language experience

• 5+ years of leading design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience

• Experience as a mentor, tech lead or leading an engineering team

• 1+ years of low level C/C++ programming experience for Unix/Linux operating systems

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent

• Expertise in Linux/Unix OS concepts such as kernel, file system security and/or and network concepts such as TCP/IP, UDP, HTTP, DNS

• Experience in network data path, socket, & POSIX Multi-thread programming

• Experience in Linux kernel development and optimization using eBPF, DPDK, etc

• Advanced design and development skills for high-volume production applications

• Proven track record of delivering end-to-end software projects with geographically distributed teams

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $151,300/year in our lowest geographic market up to $261,500/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered, equity, sign-on payments, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits.
