Our Education Statistics portfolio focuses on the development, collection, analysis, and communication of international, national, and state statistics. Our primary practice hubs are: Measurement and statistics in large-scale surveys Standards and assessment Our Education Statistics team is driven by our mission to make the world a better, more equitable place. The Research Assistant will join the Statistical Standards and Data Confidentiality Staff Technical Statistical Support (SSDCS) project. The responsibilities of SSDCS range from the development, maintenance, and promulgation of Statistical Standards and Guidelines to the protection of confidentiality in the data that are entrusted to NCES. The Statistical Standards and Guidelines govern much of the technical operations of NCES national survey collections, methodological research, and statistical product preparation. SSDCS is responsible for the technical review of all NCES products to ensure compliance with the NCES Statistical Standards and Guidelines. The materials reviewed range from electronic data files and accompanying detailed technical reports to short descriptive reports to more in-depth analytic reports. Candidates hired for the position may work remotely within the Unites States (U.S.) or from one of our U.S. office locations. Responsibilities The responsibilities for the position include: The candidate will provide support for technical review activities, including reviewing draft NCES products (technical/methodological reports, methodology studies, First Look reports, statistical analysis reports, indicators, tables of Digest of Education Statistics, data files, and data file documentation) for statistical soundness and, in particular, for consistency with the NCES Statistical Standards (see https://nces.ed.gov/statprog/2012/) and Institute of Education Sciences (IES) Style Guide (see https://nces.ed.gov/statprog/style.asp). The candidate will also conduct disclosure risk reviews and manage the update of the center-wide NCES Handbook of Survey Methods (https://nces.ed.gov/statprog/handbook/index.asp). Additionally, the hired individual should be available during the core SSDCS working hours from 9 am to 5 pm EST.
