UW MEDICINE IT SERVICES has an outstanding job opportunity for a LEAD, EPIC COGITO DATA OPERATIONS position.

WORK SCHEDULE

  • 100% FTE – 40 hours per week

  • Day Shift – UW MEDICINE ITS SERVICES CORE HOURS ARE 07:00 – 16:00 (PST), Monday-Friday POSITION HIGHLIGHTS

  • Support the direction and priorities of the Manager by coordinating and overseeing the following operational activities and system maintenance, and ensuring standard services are meeting appropriate targets.

  • Prioritize and distribute the workload throughout the team, managing the day-to-day workflow and reporting to the manager the status of work assignments,

  • Provide a point of escalation for operational and other service issues.

  • Identify and propose service management improvements.

  • Provide advice, coaching, and mentorship to team on work techniques, best practices, and operational expertise.

  • Serve as the manager’s delegate to represent the team to customers, project managers, technical leadership, and organizational management. DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION UW Medicine IT Services (ITS) is a shared services organization that supports all of UW Medicine. UW Medicine is comprised of Harborview Medical Center (HMC), UW Medical Center-Montlake Campus (UWMC-Montlake), UW Medical Center-Northwest Campus (UWMC-NW), Valley Medical Center (VMC), UW Medicine Primary Care (UWMPC), UW Physicians (UWP), UW School of Medicine (SOM), and Airlift Northwest (ALNW). ITS is responsible for the ongoing support and maintenance of the infrastructure and applications which support all these institutions, along with the implementation of new services and applications that are used to support and further the UW Medicine mission.

    PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • You oversee the operational activities of the team.

  • You capture and report on teamwork assignments reflecting status, priority, capacity, and utilization.

  • You support the manager to define team activities, direction, and priorities.

  • You lead troubleshooting exercises or incident teams. You may be asked to lead a group of peers to resolve urgent issues.

  • You meet regularly with staff, conducting frequent huddles, team meetings, and one-on-ones with staff, peer leads, and manager.

  • You participate in Epic Software Maintenance Program (ESMP) upgrade meetings, parse Nova notes, and ensure staff communicate Clarity and Caboodle changes and updates to end users and internal Analytics staff

  • You coordinate downtime for upgrades, database refreshes, hardware replacement, and OS and SQL reconfiguration.

  • You maintain Epic certification in Clarity and Caboodle Administration and Caboodle Development with Clarity and non-Epic data.

  • You ensure staff are all appropriately trained and are maintaining certifications.

  • You mentor team members in technical, departmental, and data model knowledge, practices, processes, and procedures. LEAD RESPONSIBILITIES The Lead is responsible for organizing and overseeing the operational activities within a defined team.

  • You make assignments and distribute workload, manage the day-to-day workflow within the defined team, lead team meetings and huddles, and report to manager regarding completion of workflow.

  • You coordinate implementation and oversee the work of a group assigned to a specific project, including identification of assignments and responsibility, establishing work deadlines for project team members, and coordinating completion of activities.

  • You act as a liaison to customers and project managers and represent the team to management.

  • You mentor team members on techniques, best practices, and operational expertise.

  • Though the Lead has no formal human resources responsibilities, you may:• Provide feedback to the manager on work-related issues, including those that might lead to corrective action.• Provide feedback to the manager on recruiting, hiring, and performance evaluation (i.e., gather customer feedback, draft evaluation, and attend review meetings with the manager and co-workers).

  • You act as the primary contact for issue escalation and engage team members in conflict resolution.

  • You vet purchases on behalf of the team.

  • You collaborate with other leads, supervisors, and managers to coordinate services and negotiate operating level agreements.

  • You may backfill the manager’s role on an interim basis for when a manager is out of the office for a planned or unplanned event. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Business Administration, or related field or equivalent combination of experience/education.

  • 6 years’ experience must include the following:

  • 6+ years of recent IT experience.

  • 1+ years of experience formally mentoring or leading IT professionals.

  • 5+ years of experience, and the ability to lead a team in, SQL development, including complex query optimization and performance tuning.

  • 5+ years' experience, and the ability to lead a team in, the design and development of scalable ETL solutions.

  • 5+ years' experience with supporting and maintaining SQL Server database environments.

  • 5+ years’ of hands-on Clarity opearations experience.

  • 3+ years’ of Caboodle ETL development and operations experience.

  • Advanced experience performing application administration for an enterprise data warehouse.

  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server architecture and configurations.

  • Advanced understanding of EPIC Clarity and Caboodle database and ETL processes, including 3+ years of hands-on experience.

  • 5+ years of hands-on, enterprise level, Cogito Administration and Operations experience.

  • 5+ years of experience administering tools and technologies in technical support, analysis, and administration for Epic Cogito applications including Reporting Workbench, Radar, SlicerDicer, and Epic Crystal Integration.

  • Advanced knowledge of current and future project management and requirement gathering technologies.

  • Advanced experience with modeling methodologies and demonstrated understanding of principles for data normalization/denormalization, abstraction, dimensionality as interface, etc.

  • Advanced knowledge of how data in a relational database is stored, retrieved, and processed, including experience analyzing query statistics and the query plan.

  • Demonstrated project management skills.

  • Extensive experience with formal software engineering practices (source code version control, and validation, deployment, and maintainence of Microsoft-based applications).

  • Advanced understanding of database design.

  • Advanced problem solving and debugging skills.

  • Advanced understanding of data warehousing concepts and architecture.

  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server architecture and configurations.

  • Advanced experience with SQL. CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

  • This is an Information Technology deadline-driven work environment.

  • The individual in this position is expected to work normal daytime hours. The work may be performed in either an office environment or by telecommuting with manager approval, during normal business hours; however, significant off-hours and weekends may be needed to resolve problems and respond to emergencies. This individual is expected to be available for emergencies (business continuity/disaster recovery efforts) on a 24x7 basis as needed.

  • Must coordinate projects without direct supervisory authority.

  • Must work within the constraints of multiple technical environments.

  • The individual in this position must learn many organizational structures and cultures and continually foster collaboration.

  • Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
