The Office of Fraternity & Sorority Life has an outstanding opportunity for a Director for the Office of Fraternity & Sorority Life to join their team.

The Director for the Office of Fraternity & Sorority Life (OFSL) is the primary student development professional responsible for the operational management and leadership of the Office of Fraternity & Sorority Life. The OFSL interacts and works with 23 Interfraternity Council fraternities (and growing), 18 Panhellenic sororities, 13 Multicultural Greek Council organizations, and 5 National Pan-Hellenic Council organizations. Approximately 3,500+ members take part. Thirty-nine chapters have off-campus housing facilities in which over 2,800 students reside. An integral part of the Division of Student Life, the OFSL serves as a resource and an advocate for the growth and development of the community of fraternal organizations. The Director will actively collaborate and consult with student leaders, councils, chapters, alumni leadership, and University staff to create and implement a strategic vision for Greek Life that is consistent with the University’s vision and values and the fraternal community’s goals and ideals.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Program Management and Leadership: 55%

  • Provide operational and administrative supervision of 2 professional full time staff and 1 student staff.

  • Maintain, develop, and implement department policies and procedures.

  • Supervise departmental budget and fiscal operations.

  • Manage and supervise overall program functions and determine strategies to ensure the long-term stability of the department.

  • Develop and implement strategic and comprehensive programs and services to meet the needs of the university and Greek community.

  • Develop, maintain, and enhance educational programs that focus on issues related to the Greek community including, but not limited to, risk and facility management, diversity, philanthropy, member development, and scholarship.

  • Engage with University offices including Community Standards and Student Conduct, UW Police Department, and neighborhood groups on matters pertaining to Greek Life and risk management.

  • Engage in regular assessment and inquiry of staff, programs, services, and stakeholders to determine current needs and plan accordingly.

  • Prepare annual reports regarding the activities, initiatives, programs, and outcomes of the OFSL.

  • Compile and distribute fraternity and sorority statistical information and reports.

  • Manage relationships with chapter and alumni advisors, corporation board offers, house directors, and inter/national headquarters.

  • Consult with and provide assistance to other Student Life and campus colleagues on projects and assignments as needed.

  • Cultivate and sustain partnerships with state, regional, and metropolitan government leaders, law enforcement, local businesses, neighborhood community associations, and University departments (e.g., University Police, Housing and Food Services, Community Standards and Student Conduct, Student Activities).

  • Advise and assist councils, headquarters staff, chapters, and University officials with the interpretation and implementation of University and respective Greek-related guidelines, policies, and procedures.Student Support 40%:

  • Advise chapter presidents, the Greek governing councils, and their respective boards, committees, and programs.

  • Help connect student leaders to Greek alumni through introductions and recommendations.

  • Develop, maintain, and enhance educational programs that focus on issues related to professional development of students involved in the Greek community including, but not limited to, leadership, career development, academic success, and personal safety.

  • Manage and facilitate resolution of crisis and conflict situations.

  • Mentor individual students as applicable.Stewardship 5%:

  • Coordinate with Student Life and/or UW Advancement as needed for periodic fundraising activities to support the programs and operations of OFSL and engage alumni donors.

  • Related/other duties as assigned.

  • General supervision is received from the Associate Vice President for Student Life MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • A master’s degree in college student personnel, higher education administration, or related field is required, or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and abilities can be acquired.

  • Three (3) or more years of demonstrated success in and knowledge of a) the organization, function, and purpose of Greek life, b) the development, delivery and assessment of educational programs and student learning opportunities, and c) inter/national fraternity and sorority policies and procedures. Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration. ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • A demonstrated commitment to mentoring university students;

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills; and

  • Skills to work collaboratively with student leadership, full-time staff, and the campus community. DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Seven (7) or more years of demonstrated success in and knowledge of a) the organization, function, and purpose of Greek life, b) the development, delivery and assessment of educational programs and student learning opportunities, and c) inter/national fraternity and sorority policies and procedures.
