The Custodian Lead is an essential role in maintaining the building and physical plant, and supporting a learning environment that promotes health, attitude and pride of students. The position regularly assigns, instructs and checks the work of assigned custodian team members.

This position will work an 8 hour shift between the hours of 4:00am and 8:30pm. Availability for occasional event coverage outside of these hours is highly desirable. Distinguishing Characteristics: The Lead Custodian is responsible for lead worker duties not held by a Custodian, including ensuring the readiness of custodial staff and equipment, demonstrating safe work practices, maintaining an inventory of supplies and equipment and providing input on performance evaluations and disciplinary matters. This classification is distinguished from the Custodian by a greater degree of responsibility and latitude of judgment.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assists in the training of the custodial staff; oversees custodial work, maintaining a high standard of safety, cleanliness, and efficiency.

  • Knowledge of and skill in the operation of floor, carpet, wall and office cleaning equipment and tools; knowledge of and skill in cleaning methods and procedures.

  • Skilled in training and monitoring of performance of staff; ability to plan work assignments and set priorities; report status and condition of assigned areas to supervisor; assist supervisor with performance evaluations.

  • Instruct employees in proper cleaning techniques and safety practices; knowledge of and skill in safely applying custodial chemicals; maintain compliance with applicable policies and procedures.

  • Distribute custodial equipment and supplies; monitor the use and care of assigned equipment and supplies. Assist with inventory management; provide recommendations on product selection in alignment with UWT Green Cleaning Program.

  • Initiate work orders for repair/maintenance.

  • Perform the duties of a Custodian, to include: sweeps, mops, vacuums, scrubs, and refinishes floors; clean and dust furniture; wash windows and walls; clean restrooms; dispose of campus waste from receptacles, etc.; make certain all areas of the building are kept in a clean, sanitary and orderly condition according to industry and/or district standards. Pick up litter within the campus grounds. Applies cleaning chemicals according to established safety procedures, adheres to safety measures for cleaning, lifting, moving, and operating equipment.

  • Perform related duties as required. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS Physical ability to do required work AND one year of experience as a Custodian, or equivalent OR equivalent education/experience. DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS • The ability to be physically active for the entire shift while completing cleaning tasks, regularly lifting up to 35 lbs.• Employee is required to properly use such safety equipment as in appropriate to the work to prevent injury to self or others.• Ability to communicate in person, by radio, electronically, and over the phone.• Ability to use computer equipment to complete reports, generate service orders, maintain inventories, etc.
