The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering has an outstanding opportunity for a Career & Industry Programs Manager. This individual provides a critical role in ECE Industry and Professional Programs by providing high-level development and management of the department’s new industry initiatives such as the ECE Industry Mentorship Program, on-campus visits, and career treks. This position should be a subject matter expert in career development and student-industry engagement. The Career & Industry Programs Manager will serve as a resource to guide students through their career journeys, utilizing their knowledge and expertise to solve problems and address issues related to career planning, mentorship, job searches, and professional development. This position will also manage the growing portfolio of ECE affiliated certificates and short courses and provide academic and career advising for students in the degree and certificate programs.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES ECE Industry Program Management

  • Manage and develop the ECE Industry Mentorship Program that connects ECE students with experienced industry professionals.

  • Recruit mentors from various ECE industries, match students with mentors based on career interests and goals, organize mentorship program activities, and assess program effectiveness.

  • Implement engagement opportunities with industry partners through company and career treks as well as on-campus networking and recruitment sessions.

  • In partnership with the Director of Industry and Professional Programs, build and maintain relationships with companies in targeted sectors in order to develop new opportunities for departmental partnerships.

  • Manage short courses that engage industry professionals in specialized educational content with UW ECE faculty.

  • Participate in the development and review of social media, website, print, and other marketing materials, helping shape program messaging.

  • Engage in fiscal management by creating yearly and quarterly ECE industry programs budgets, managing orders and purchases, and completing associated reconciliation processes.

  • Perform other duties as required to support the ongoing mission and strategic plans of the program. Career Development

  • Develop and implement programs, activities, advising, and print and/or electronic resources focused on student career development.

  • Meet with students for individual career advising and facilitate workshops to cultivate students' skills in topics such as navigating career options, interviewing, building a network, and writing resumes and cover letters.

  • Partner with the Career Center @ Engineering, faculty, alumni, and other campus resources to provide tools and programs that will support the career readiness of students.

  • Serve as the Professional Programs alumni relations lead, encouraging alumni to remain engaged with the program and building professional networks for current students. Academic Advising

  • Function as the lead for ECE graduate non-matriculated, affiliated certificates, and short courses by managing admissions processes and serving as the primary advising contact for students in these programs.

  • Advise graduate non-matriculated, certificate, and degree students throughout the lifecycle of their graduate student experience, from application through enrollment and graduation to becoming program alumni.

  • Maintain program web content and usability, ensuring accuracy of public and student-facing information and policies on the ECE website, intranet, and Canvas, etc.

  • Participate in the development and review of social media, website, print, and other marketing materials, helping shape program messaging.

  • Perform regular maintenance of student records across various UW and ECE systems by documenting all advising meetings, tracking progress, and processing petitions as needed.

  • Develop and participate in annual recruitment plans, including online and in-person information sessions and campus visits. Analysis and Strategy

  • Gather, analyze, and report data on trends in graduate non-matriculated and affiliated certificate applications and admissions, student demographics, academic progress, and course enrollment.

  • Track and document qualitative and quantitative data regarding student and alumni career outcomes.

  • Utilize data to make informed decisions and recommendations regarding affiliated certificate and short course admission targets, growth, course offerings, and curriculum development.

  • Survey students and recent graduates to assess needs and summarize the results to identify areas of success and areas for increased attention.

  • Communicate with the Director and GPC about degree and certificate student morale, emerging needs, and develop appropriate support strategies and/or new policies as needed. Lead Responsibilities: The position manages the operations of ECE Industry programs and affiliate certificate programs and provides academic advising, alumni engagement, and career development activities to students in the Professional Master’s Program and affiliated certificates. Supervisory responsibilities: Student Assistant(s) Working Environmental Conditions: This position must be able to work flexible hours as necessary due to work demands and will occasionally require attendance at evening and weekend events and information sessions. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor's Degree in education, social sciences, engineering, public administration.

  • Four years of experience with student counseling, student services, recruiting, career coaching, and/or related experience. Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration. ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Experience coordinating academic, career, alumni and industry engagement, and/or recruitment events.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team; flexible and self-motivated.

  • Commitment to diversity and experience working with individuals from different cultural, ethnic, geographic, and experiential backgrounds.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, used in situations requiring conflict management and an awareness of cultural differences

  • Demonstrated experience and ability to communicate effectively with diplomacy and professionalism.

  • Engaging presentation and public speaking skills.

  • Self-motivated and able to use available resources to solve problems, develop new resources, and answer questions with minimal supervision.

  • Excellent time-management, attention to detail, and organizational skills and the ability to work under the pressure of frequent deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft suite and cloud-based tools. DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master’s Degree in education, social sciences, engineering, public administration.

  • 4+ years of experience in providing student advising, student services, career advising or related experience to university students.

  • Knowledge of career development theories, adult development theory, counseling process, career decision making, learning styles, and job search techniques.

  • Experience supporting adult learners and international students in graduate education.

  • Experience in recruiting and supporting students historically underrepresented in STEM and higher education.

  • Familiarity and experience with UW admissions, registration, and UW systems such as EARS, MyGrad Program, Slate, UW Student Database, Canvas, and BI Portal.
