CAPITAL PLANNING PROJECT MANAGER

Housing & Food Services has an outstanding opportunity for a Capital Planning Project Manager to join their team. POSITION PURPOSE The Project Manager will play a vital role in the efficient administration of project planning and execution for Housing and Food Services. This position will be instrumental in managing small to large projects, working with UW Owner Representatives and consultants, and ensuring projects align with HFS Facilities Planning Strategy for successful project delivery in terms of scope, budget, and timeline. The Project Manager will also assist the Assistant Director for Capital Planning in facilitating communication with stakeholders, including University Leadership, staff, and students.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Project Management: • Oversee the planning, design, and construction of capital projects, procurement projects, and other projects, ensuring they meet department and university goals for renewal and improvement. • Act as the primary point of contact for Housing & Food Services with Owner Representatives from UW Facilities Project Delivery Group • Develop and oversee project budgets and schedules, and coordinate with consultants to manage their contributions throughout the project lifecycle. • Draft RFPs, manage contracts, and ensure accountability and compliance. • Work closely with the Assistant Director for Capital Planning to align projects with strategic objectives and report on progress. • Work to ensure the health and safety of UW students and staff in relation to demolition and construction activities

Department and Unit Operations: • Assist the HFS Planning team in budgeting and program preparation, incorporating sustainable practices, and ensuring diversity, equity, and inclusion in all project aspects. • Collaborate with HFS Planning and Operations teams to ensure effective communication and lessen potential project impacts. • Collaborate with HFS Planning and estimating consultants to help develop ROM pricing for work to be conducted

IMPACT TO THE UNIVERSITY • Impact on Work Unit and University: The Project Manager is pivotal in overseeing the successful completion of Housing & Food Service capital projects, significantly enhancing student and staff facilities which align with the University of Washington's goals for modernization and sustainability. • Support for University Objectives: This role enhances the educational environment by upgrading living and dining facilities, directly supporting student success, and furthers research in sustainable practices through active participation in green initiatives. • Magnitude of Impact: Responsible for managing multiple projects with significant budgets, the position affects thousands of university community members by maintaining high-quality housing and dining services and sets sustainability standards to meet increasing code requirements that influence practices within and beyond the university.

POSITION COMPLEXITIES • Decision-Making Challenges: The role involves making complex decisions regarding resource allocation and project prioritization to guide outcomes based on diverse data sources, significantly impacting project outcomes for HFS. • Responsibility for High-Level Coordination: The Project Manager must coordinate between various stakeholders including vendors, contractors, and university departments, requiring precise communication and strategic planning to maintain project timelines and goals. • Unique Position Aspects: Managing multiple project sites simultaneously introduces complexity due to varied stakeholder expectations and operational differences, requiring strong coordination and flexibility.

WORKING CONDITIONS This position is expected to maintain regular work days Monday through Friday, with three days in-person, and two days remote. In addition, the position is expected to maintain flexibility to work additional time to achieve deliverables and participate in special events.

REPORTS TO HFS Assistant Director for Capital Planning

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS • Bachelor's degree in engineering, construction management, or architecture. • Proven experience as a Project Manager in commercial, mixed-use, residential, or higher-education construction, ideally within an owner, architecture, engineering, or construction capacity.

Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all required qualifications. DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Demonstrated ability to manage multiple complex projects involving various stakeholders, including directing teams of owner representatives, architects, contractors, and consultants. • Strong capability in reading construction documents and utilizing industry-standard tools such as Revit, Bluebeam, Sketchup, and Procore. • Familiarity with project scheduling, permitting, and resource tasking in public or private sector projects. • Robust knowledge of MEP systems, civil engineering principles, building codes, and regulations. • Excellent organizational, analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills; adept at presenting project details to diverse audiences including stakeholders, staff, and students. • Relevant professional credentials (e.g., NCARB, AIA, PE, DBIA, CCM) or a Master’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or Architecture are advantageous but not mandatory. • Initiative, flexibility, and a keen desire to learn, with the ability to achieve results independently.
