The School of STEM has an outstanding opportunity for an Associate Director of Student Success to join their team. POSITION PURPOSE

This position will lead the School of STEM Student Success Team, which is being implemented in response to undergraduate academic advising on the Bothell campus moving out of the schools and into a centralized model. This position will be a liaison to the UWB Academic Advising and will lead a team of staff dedicated to supporting student success. This will be the first of its kind position for STEM. The school and campus relations pieces will be challenging as we navigate how best to work across teams to support our students.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES School/Campus Relations • Liaise with Assistant Dean for Academic Advising. Strong communication and strategic planning will be important for a successful centralized advising transition. • Work closely with 7 disciplinary STEM programs offering numerous degrees and Academic Advising to ensure curriculum changes, advising practices, and other relevant information is communicated between the units • Work closely with STARs program to support student transitions to STEM majors • Liaison with STEM leadership (including dean, associate dean, 4 division chairs, 7 program coordinators) and/or STEM faculty to address student concerns/issues that arise with Academic Advising • This position is the main point of contact for student success initiatives for the School of STEM. With the Office of Student Success residing outside of the school, the role will be instrumental in collaborations that will serve a substantial population of UW Bothell students who are majoring in STEM disciplines and those who want to join UW Bothell as STEM students. Currently STEM programs are the most sought after in UW Bothell.

Leadership • Serve on the Dean’s Leadership Team • Lead the organization of STEM-related events (e.g., Preview Days, Admitted Student Day, industry career panels). This involves being the decision-maker for a variety of high-profile events for STEM, which is a complex unit representing 7 disciplines organized in 4 divisions and offering a wide variety of degree programs, involving prospective students and their families as well as collaborations with industry and community partners. This leadership will involve communicating with external partners, making decisions about who will be involved in various events, designing programs in consultation with others, and assigning responsibilities for events. Additionally, this role will be responsible for identifying strategic opportunities for STEM to offer school-wide events, especially to engage the community and serve as recruitment for UW Bothell’s future STEM students (e.g., STEM Day). • Lead in strategic planning and policy/procedure development for event programming that involves a variety of constituencies. Some of this work will involve determining the responsibilities and division of labor amongst groups. • Lead the organization of STEM scholarship programs (e.g., Avanade Scholars) as needed. This will involve carrying out good stewardship of gifts for scholarships including organizing scholarship awardee events as needed, advertising scholarship programs, recruiting/charging scholarship committee to review candidates, and notifying scholarship applicants in conjunction with others in financial aid. • Identify strategic opportunities to build relationships between STEM programs and UWB Academic Advising. This will involve hosting events to bring two groups together amongst other ideas.

Supervisory • Hire, train, supervise, and provide performance reviews for members of the Student Success Team (e.g., STEM Capstone Coordinator) • Train and mentor student employees as necessary.

Operations • Serve as student data specialist for the School of STEM. Programs, divisions, and the school will rely on this position to gather data to make institutional decisions. • Collaborate with STEM Capstone Coordinator on quarterly UWB STEM symposium • Serve as a resource for students and faculty for student-facing policies, procedures, and petitions (e.g., Add Codes, Course Waitlists, Course Repeat Petitions, Reinstatement Petitions)

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

• Bachelor’s degree in liberal arts & sciences, Business Administration, or related field and 4 years of experience in student-facing position and collaborating with others on complex projects.

Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration. ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

• Student affairs, academic advising, and/or student success/retention, experience working with students from underserved populations.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Experience working with STEM and pre-stem majors

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

• In-person with office M-F 8-5. Remote work options may be considered.
