The Assistant Director of Special Programs’ primary function will be to perform a wide range of duties related to all phases of students’ academic and program experience for the Certificate of International Studies in Business (CISB), the business minor, the entrepreneurship minor and the non-credit certificate programs. The Assistant Director will develop policies and procedures, manage operations, and advise students associated with CISB, the business minor, the entrepreneurship minor and the non-credit certificate programs.

The Assistant Director of Special Programs’ plays a significant role in managing the Certificate of International Studies in Business (CISB), the business minor, the entrepreneurship minor and the non-credit certificate programs. This role is an administrative one while at the same time having the student services background to provide programmatic oversight as well as interact with students

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Administrative Lead on the Certificate of International Studies in Business 60%

Admissions o Facilitate CISB admissions process including evaluation of diverse applicants. o Interface with Associate Director of Operations on application processing system/database. o Regularly review and assess admission process.

Program Planning and Policy o Assist Faculty Director with strategic planning and program assessment to establish program goals, measure outcomes, and make program changes. o Facilitate petition process for certificate requirement exceptions. o Assist with faculty advisor coordination, communication, scheduling quarterly faculty meetings, and assisting faculty with grading issues/questions. o Collaborate on stewardship of scholarship endowment and scholarship recipient selection. o Create annual calendar for CISB Seminar All-Track meetings: coordinating guest speakers, meeting topics, and learning outcomes. o Using independent judgment, respond student concerns relating to CISB such as course sequencing and substitution of UW or study abroad courses to fulfill CISB certificate requirements o Award CISB certificates on a quarterly basis and conduct exit interviews/surveys. o Prepare and monitor CISB budget.

Coordinate CISB student leaders (executive board and track presidents)
o Facilitate selection of student leaders. o With minimal supervision provide guidance to student leaders on how to “run” the student portion of CISB such as track activities, reaching out to speaker for track meetings, interacting with faculty advisers (and intercede when difference of opinion occurs) and facilitate regular and productive officer meetings. o Meet regularly with student executive board (weekly) and track presidents (bi-weekly). o Assist student leaders with meeting/event planning and implementation.

• Working with faculty advisers and CISB student leaders (executive board and track presidents), lead efforts to promote community building among CISB members.

Event planning for program-related activities.
o Planning of foreign market strategy competition (arranging judges, consulting on case parameters). o Business language and all-track activities (including new student orientation, alumni nights, culture night, panel speakers). o Plan annual banquet for graduating seniors. o Organize opportunities for CISB students to connect with professionals through company visits (off-site) or small group interactions on campus.

Data
o Collect and analyze data related to student enrollment, program performance and other benchmarks identified by the Undergraduate Programs Office. o Provide data to GBC on a yearly basis in support of grant reporting. At time of grant proposal writing (every four years), provide additional data as requested by GBC. o Prepare qualitative reports on CISB.

Program Promotion o Publicize and promote the CISB program via information sessions and workshops to prospective students (size of groups ranges from 10-75 participants). May include outreach to feeder schools with presentations or college fairs or Foster student orientations or UW courses. o Create and update promotional materials, including handouts, brochures, newsletters, social media, and web.

Collaborate with Global Business Center o Assist with recruitment of CISB alumni as volunteers/judges in support of the global business case competitions. o Collaborate on study abroad advising and study abroad resources for CISB students

Program Lead for Student Support of the Minors and Non-Credit Certificates 25%

• Business Minor o Advising o Manage email and zoom advising for declared minor students and taking minor or badge classes o Make DARS exceptions when appropriate to allow students to earn the minor o Business for Life and Sports for Business Badges o Manage completion tracking of badge (via web form) o Manage communication with students enrolled in minor via listserv (promoting Foster events and services as well as providing registration information) o Plan and execute as needed quarterly in-person events

o Data o Collect and analyze data related to student enrollment, program performance and other benchmarks identified by the Undergraduate Programs Office. o Provide data for Foster School Dashboard

• Entrepreneurship Minor o Advising o Manage email and zoom advising for declared minor students and taking minor or badge classes o Make DARS exceptions when appropriate to allow students to earn the minor o Manage admissions process o Manage communication with students enrolled in minor via listserv (promoting Foster events and services as well as providing registration information)

Non-Credit Certificates o Enroll Foster major and minor students in Excel and R certificates via Canvas o Manage completion tracking of badge (via web form) o Respond to student queries about badges (via email)

Point of contact with Foster MarComm Department o Website and promotion of minor o Website and promotion of badge plus design of badge for Linked In (in collaboration with Faculty Coordinator regarding promotional ideas)

Activities supporting the mission of Undergraduate Programs (advising, career, diversity, and student services) 15%

• Serve and participate on Foster and University committees as assigned or designated. • Support Foster Undergraduate Programs events and participate fully in a fast-moving team environment where everyone is expected to roll-up their sleeves and contribute whenever possible.

Other duties as assigned. Lead Responsibilities:

• Administrative Lead on the Certificate of International Studies in Business • Program Lead for Student Support of the Minors and Non-Credit Certificates

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Master's Degree in Higher Education, Counseling, or similar and a minimum of two years of student services, student advising, or counseling, programming or related experience.

Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration. ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

• Must have significant experience in student services (such as advising, career counseling), program implementation plus budget oversight capabilities. • Experience and desire to work with a diverse group of students. • Proven ability to multitask and prioritize in a fast-paced environment plus an ability to set and meet goals and adapt quickly to changing priorities. • Energetic self-starter with a get-it done attitude and collaborative disposition. • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including public speaking and articulating ideas clearly in person and in writing. • Dependable and responsible with the ability to problem solve, make independent decisions based on University and Foster School policies and guidelines, balance multiple tasks, and manage complex workloads with competing priorities. • Must be able to work professionally and effectively communicate across various demographics within community organizations and d the business community (e.g. the Dean and Foster School Leadership, students, alumni, faculty, staff, business partners, donors, and community) for the purpose of building partnerships.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Commitment to and passion for the value of international education. • Strong technological skills and experience with multiple software platforms, including degree audit systems, and student information systems. • Project management skills. • Familiarity with the administrative structure of a large university. • Experience working and communicating successfully with faculty.

WORKING CONDITIONS

The hours of work are typically 40 hours a week in a private space. • Some remote work is possible (about 40%) with an understanding that there are weeks that require more hours on-campus. • Possible evening and weekend work.
