The School of Nursing has an outstanding opportunity for a Assistant Director of Advising, Student and Academic Services to join their team. POSITION COMPLEXITIES Direct student services for approximately 600 students across multiple degree programs and certificate offerings. Provide direct front-line advising for students enrolled in the School’s PhD program. This position requires knowledge of the University of Washington School of Nursing degree programs and tracks, University of Washington registration and administrative systems, graduation requirements, and best practices for student services.

POSITION DIMENSIONS AND IMPACT TO THE UNIVERSITY The Student and Academic Services office is critical to the University and School missions. Accurate knowledge of University and School policies is required; advising mistakes and misinterpreting policies and standards pose a risk to the school and the university.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Front-line advising of PhD students. Supervision of a team of 3 graduate and undergraduate advisers. Setting an overall strategic vision and a series of best practices for advising in the School of Nursing. Executing on that vision to deliver on the student services needs for everyone enrolled in the School’s programs.

Direct Student Services: Develop, implement, evaluate, and improve a student services model across all nursing degree programs by setting policies and practices around student advising, school-level administrative policies, graduation requirements, satisfactory student progress, and faculty support and advising related to student interactions and curriculum.

In partnership with the Associate Dean of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (ADDEI), and the Director of Admissions and Student Diversity, co-lead efforts to increase access to services focused on promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion for nursing students. All student services practices should be informed by the School’s Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion recommendations to proactively identify and address institutional barriers to academic success and ensure that School and University policies are designed and implemented to support and retain students.

Supervise three academic advisers in charge of advising services for the School’s undergraduate programs: 160 students in the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) and 128 students in the Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing programs (ABSN), as well as the graduate degree programs (Master of Science, Doctor of Nursing Practice, Doctor of Philosophy in Nursing Science, and Certificates - approximately 350+ students in multiple specialties].

Faculty and Administrative Support: Serve as a designated liaison between the School of Nursing administration, faculty, students, Graduate School, University Registrar, and Professional and Continuing Education (PCE). Serve as an ex-officio member on curriculum coordinating committees to interpret University and School policies, propose new program policies, and evaluate existing policies. Collaborate with the Assistant Director of Curriculum to effectively complete and communicate program and curriculum changes to faculty and students. Propose and implement process improvements to reduce duplication and improve efficiency.

Student and Academic Services Support: Support and consult regularly with the Director of Student and Academic Services and Associate Dean of Academic Affairs. Serve as primary office lead during absences and vacations. Actively serve on Student and Academic Services Planning, Convocation, and Student Orientation teams.

Lead Responsibilities: Student Services for 600+ students, including direct advising and student compliance.

Supervisory Responsibilities Hire, train, supervise, and evaluate three Counseling Services Coordinators. Assign, oversee, and direct problem-solving on duties such as but not limited to: degree requirements and course equivalencies, degree verifications, student progression, graduation requirements, student evaluations, course evaluations, curriculum committee agendas, student progression, and conduct.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS • Bachelor’s Degree in any field of study and four years of work experience in advising, student services, or higher education • Familiarity with student services best practices

Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration. DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS • Master’s Degree in Education or Student Services • Thorough knowledge and understanding of Undergraduate and Graduate University and School policies and requirements. • Familiarity with UW data systems: Salesforce, SDB, EARS, MyGrad, MyPlan, DARS, and Data Warehouse. • Knowledge of Excel, Access, and Microsoft Office.
