Seattle Children’s Hospital A/BSL3 Specialist II in Seattle, Washington

Responsibilities: This position is for a specialized individual capable of performing the day-to-day tasks required to operate a safe, successful, and compliant A/BSL-3 research facility with an active in vivo and in vitro program. The A/BSL-3 facility which the individual would help manage currently supports 10 PIs within Seattle Children's Center for Global Infectious Disease Research along with their teams and is in the process of transitioning to a core facility under Shared Research Resources (SRR). SRR is an umbrella for institutionally supported core resources and facilities that enable efficient and equitable access to state-of-the-art scientific equipment and expertise to advance collaborative, cutting-edge pediatric research. The individual in this position will work closely with Environmental Health and Safety, Office of Animal Care staff as well as the research users. The primary responsibilities of the specialist will be to ensure PPE is available, critical equipment (e.g. autoclaves, respirators) are functioning, waste is processed properly, train those needing access to the facility, perform internal audits/inspections, microbial monitoring, environmental monitoring, safety program and SOP reviews to support overall function of the facility.Strong candidates will drive continuous improvement within the facility in alignment with EHS, OAC, IACUC, IBC, and research user-group. This specialist is to be forward thinking, collaborative, and assist in adherence to regulations which apply to the facility in order to maintain a facility which is continually "inspection-ready. Requirements: Required Education/Experience: Bachelor's in Science or a related field Minimum 3 years of experience in a biomedical research setting. Minimum 1 year working in a Biosafety Level 3 (BSL-3) laboratory and/or an Animal Biosafety Level 3 facility (A/BSL-3). Experience with lab or facility management including inventory, coordination of facility and equipment maintenance and process development related to research facility/core service support. Knowledge of regulations and guidelines pertaining to research facility operation. Required Credentials: N/A Preferred: Experience with laboratory animals, preferably in a biosafety level 2 or above setting. Experience in developing training material and/or overseeing a researcher training program. Min to Max Hourly Salary: $36.75 - $55.12 /hr Min to Max Annual Salary: $76,440.00 - $114,649.60 /yr Salary Information: This compensation range was calculated based on full-time employment (2080 hours worked per calendar year). Offers are determined by multiple factors including equity, skills, experience, and expertise, and may vary within the range provided.
