Role Summary

The Flight Standards and Deicing Program Manager is the sole subject matter expert for the development and maintenance of the Flight Operations Manual (FOM) and the Flight Operations Deicing Manual (FODM). As individual contributor role, this role exercises considerable latitude and initiative in writing and maintaining this manual but also works closely with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) request and approval process.

Key Duties

  • As the lead subject matter expert, this role is responsible for writing the Flight Operations Manual (FOM) policies and procedures for pilots and dispatchers.

    • Continual review and updates of existing content which covers a multitude of subjects within twenty chapters.

    • Research and write new content in accordance with regulatory guidance.

    • Publish multiple revisions and bulletins annually.

    • Ensuring proper standards are reflected to show all fleet types

  • As new markets arise, this role will be responsible for coordinating with stakeholders across the organization at varying levels to ensure compliance, op specs, performance with fleet tech teams, jeppeson coverage

  • Manage and ensure compliancy with international operations and procedures

  • The Program Manager must develop, cultivate, and maintain partnerships with internal and external teams to understand and investigate root causes and develop comprehensive fixes for operational issues reported by Irregularity Reports, ASAP, and the Compliance department.

  • Identify, research, and coordinate the Standards and Deicing programs between aircraft fleets, other Alaska Airlines divisions and when applicable Horizon Air.

  • Manage and lead strategic improvement efforts for the FAA Approved Alaska Airlines Deicing Program which requires:

    • Review and updates to the Flight Operations Deicing Manual (FODM), applicable Flight Handbook content, 10-7 Deice content and Holdover Times (HOT) EFB app.

    • Collaborate with Pilot Training to produce initial and recurrent deicing training annually.

    • Coordinate with AOCS, vendors and airports for program changes.

  • Lead, participate in and review divisional and cross-divisional SRAs.

  • Manage and lead the bi-monthly Flight Operations Coordination Meeting.

  • Complete IOSA and DOD audit checklist for Flight Standards.

  • Represent Alaska Airlines at industry meetings to collaborate with the FAA, A4A, other airlines and aircraft manufacturers.

  • Work with Holdover Time application vendor to review and release annual app update.

  • Manage Flight Operations Duty Officer (FODO) manual and SharePoint site.

  • Provide support to EFB Team, manage EFB Supplement and FOM EFB content.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Job-Specific Experience, Education & Skills

Required

  • A minimum of 7 years of air carrier experience and or experience leading major programs/initiatives.

  • Bachelor’s degree, or an additional two years of relevant training/experience in lieu of this degree

  • Working knowledge and understanding of Federal Aviation Regulations and Air Carrier Operations.

  • Critical thinking skills, with the ability to apply problem-solving processes.

  • Excellent communication skills (e.g., verbal, written, and listening).

  • Detailed oriented and highly organized, with ability to prioritize, multi-task, and work independently with limited guidance in a fast-paced environment.

  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.

  • Minimum age of 18.

  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S.

Preferred

  • Previous piloting or pilot training experience.

  • Technical writing experience.

  • A Bachelor of Arts or a Bachelor of Science degree, with a focus in a technical discipline.

Salary Range

$101,400 - $152,000 / year

Salary Details

Pay will be based on multiple factors, including and not limited to location, relevant experience/level and skillset while balancing internal equity relative to other Alaska/Horizon employees. Alaska/Horizon is committed to fair, unbiased compensation along with competitive benefits in all locations in which we operate.

Note: We don’t typically hire at the top of the range.
