Atec, Inc. Production Control Assistant in Sealy, Texas

General Description:

Vital Link, Inc.'s core business is in the fabrication, maintenance and installation of jet engine test facilities and sound suppression systems. This requires that the corporation support both field and plant operations, while operating both in a commercial and military environment on a worldwide basis. The Production Control Assistant will be primarily responsible for supporting the Production Control Manager in the management and production of shop drawing packages, bills of material, EJE takeoffs, fabrication cut sheets, and the control and documentation of engineering drawings produced by the engineering department.

Particular Duties:

Primary Functions:

  1. Generate EJE documents based on material takeoffs or bills of material. Perform accurate data entry of material types, descriptions, quantities, and other details for manufactured items and raw materials.

  2. Assist the Production Control Manager in developing, distributing and filing cut sheets, templates, work control travelers and shop drawing packages for fabrication activities.

  3. Act as liaison between the Production Control Department, shop personnel and shipping and receiving personnel for hand delivery and retrieval of correspondence, drawings, work packages, etc. as directed by the Production Control Manager.

  4. Provide overall administrative assistance to the Production Control Manager and Engineering Manager, including preparing transmittal letters, creating documents, filing, creating electronic records, making photo copies, etc.

  5. Assist the Production Control Manager in calculating quantities of materials, takeoffs and drops based on engineering drawings. Be able to perform mathematical calculations and interpret drawings and engineering instructions.

  6. Assist the Production Control Manager to track and close shop jobs and ensure that manufactured or purchased items are accurately and correctly transferred to Inventory or to the relevant project.

    Secondary Functions: The Production Control Assistant may be assigned in a backup role to fill in for people who are temporarily not available to perform their duties. This may be to temporarily perform certain duties and tasks for which they are trained, and competent. The backup role may be for an assigned manager, secretary, receptionist, or other position.

If required, due to the absence of other administrative personnel, support the company Receptionist in answering telephones, handling visitors to Vital Link, Inc. facilities, and performing other functions of the Receptionist position. This duty may be performed daily during lunch hour and other breaks of the Receptionist, or otherwise in his/her absence. Duties performed as backup to the Receptionist may include light driving of personal and/or company vehicles to complete errands, including mail handling/drop off, supply pickup, bank deposits, and light Housekeeping. The Production Control Assistant therefore must maintain an acceptable driving record and have the physical capability to perform these duties.

Training: Formal training in relevant disciplines may be substituted for a portion of the required education as deemed relevant by the HR and Department Managers. The ideal candidate will possess the skills required to perform all aspects of the position. However, additional specialized training such as in EJE or use of basic Autocad may be provided to the candidate as required.

Education: A high school degree, plus an associates degree or equivalent in business experience is required. He/she should be willing to pursue additional training to sharpen any skill deficiencies.

Experience: The PC Assistant must possess a minimum of two (2) years' experience as an administrative employee, project manager assistant or production control assistant. Prefer experience working in a construction or manufacturing environment. Should have experience in performing detail oriented work with attention to detail, accuracy and speed.

Licenses/Certification: None is required.

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities: Must be computer literate in spreadsheets and word processing applications in Microsoft Office Suite. The position requires intensely detailed oriented work, including periods of extended data entry tasks. Strong organizational skills required. Must have ability to handle multiple tasks. Must have strong teamwork skills and ability to obtain cooperation of others to maintain the organized and efficient flow of information through the Production Control Department to and from other departments. Must be trainable and willing to learn new skills and tasks required by the Production Control function. Knowledge of Autocad, scheduling software is a plus. Ability to speak conversational Spanish is a plus.

Physical: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by the employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

Body Positions: Regularly required sitting, with some standing and walking.

Body Movements: The employee must have a full range of body movements including the use of hands to fingers, handle or feel objects, computer equipment and peripherals, and bending, reaching and crouching.

Body Senses: Must have command of sight, hearing, and touch. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust and focus. These vision requirements in each area must be sufficient to shift in focus from computer screens to close forms and back routinely. Must hear and speak well enough to conduct business over the telephone.

Strength: Ability to perform normal office functions such as handling document packages and files is required.

Working Conditions: This position will be working primarily indoors in a climate controlled, smoke free

office environment, but also requires the visitation to job site areas on an as need to basis. From this movement the employee will encounter slightly varying temperatures from these areas. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, but is higher in the manufacturing work sites.

Usually eight (8) hour workdays five (5) days per week is required. Additional early and/or late workdays to accommodate special business circumstances may be required.
