Naval Facilities Engineering Command MAINTENANCE WORKER in Seal Beach, California

Summary This is a public notice flyer to notify interested applicants of anticipated vacancies. Applications will not be accepted through this flyer. Responsibilities You will operate portable power tools (e.g., drills, routers, nail guns, electric hammers, skill saws, portable table saws, circular saws, sanders, joiners) for woodworking and carpentry jobs. You will construct woodworking materials according to dimensional requirements and specifications, replace windows and doors, install jams, repair/replace flooring, general rough framing, and paint. You will prepare surfaces, frame and install drywall using spackling, drywall compound, taping, and sanding. You will apply plumbing knowledge and principles including a general knowledge of flow, draining, slant, slope, and sanitation to replace faucets, washers, plumbing lines, repairing/replacing toilets and flushing devices. You will perform plumbing work that involves removing, cleaning, replacing, and sealing defective parts and small sections of water, sewage, and similar utility systems. You must show that you have the ability to perform common tasks including: 1) Operating and maintaining a variety of hand and power tools and equipment related to the carpentry and plumbing trade; 2) Reading and following specific shop directions to complete the trade; 3) Using basic knowledge of methods and techniques of the carpentry and plumbing trade to assist in repairing and modifying items. *NOTE: Your resume must fully and clearly support this experience. PHYSICAL EFFORT: The employee lifts, carries, and handles equipment up to 40 pounds unassisted and over 40 pounds with assistance. Works from ladders, scaffolding platforms, cramped areas, or confined spaces where equipment, parts, or tools are hard to reach. Work requires frequent stopping, stretching, bending, kneeling, and working in tiring, uncomfortable positions for long periods. Employee will be required to pass a pre-employment physical and annually thereafter. WORKING CONDITIONS: The employee works indoors and outdoors, on elevated structures, and in cramped areas or confined spaces. Conditions are often dirty, dusty, greasy, hot, wet, or cold. Exposed to blood born pathogens. Subject to discomforts from face masks or other protective devices with these is a possibility of exposure to noxious gases, fumes, or acids. Employee subject to possible burns, cuts, and injury from falls. May be required to wear safety equipment, such as safety shoes, glasses, gloves, and hard hats and other personal protective equipment. Education Additional Information This announcement uses the Defense Industrial Base, Major Range and Test Facilities direct hire authority to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to certain positions in the competitive service. This position is covered by the Department of Defense Priority Placement Program. Several vacancies may be filled. This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required. Overtime, weekend, and shift work is required. The employee may be re-called to duty or required to work overtime on an emergency basis. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if the selectee fails to meet the pre-employment requirements, including failure to report to any of the scheduled appointments.
