Responsibilities

Performs various support functions in research laboratory using proper procedures to avoid the risk of laboratory-acquired infection or sample-to-sample contamination. Maintains and cleans equipment and the facility; maintains and restocks supplies; and maintains computer database. Works under direct supervision. Attention to detail is essential while dealing with multiple tasks. Flexibility is important in adjusting to frequent changes in work volume.

Additional Details :

Performs the necessary duties to provide quality care to mice utilized in a research program including maintaining a breeding colony, weaning, microchipping, mouse health observation, and other mouse handling duties as assigned. Must be able to carefully follow set procedures as dictated by the NIH Guide for the Care and Use of Animals, the Animal Welfare Act, and guidelines established by the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee and the Association for Assessment and Accreditation of Laboratory Animal Care. Must be able to stand of feet more than 50% of the time, be able to bend or squat routinely, and work with arms above shoulder level. Preference will be given to individuals certified by the American Association for Laboratory Animal Science. Previous mouse handling experience required.

*This is a one-year limited tenure position

Qualifications

Requires a high school diploma with coursework in mathematics and relevant sciences. Must have previous work experience that demonstrates organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to multi-task. Experience with Excel software is preferred. Requires manual dexterity, accurate typing, and good communication skills. Must be able to prioritize and adjust to changes in work volume.
