Minimum Qualifications This title is part of the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide Program (NY HELPS).For the duration of the NY HELPS Program, this title may be filled via a non-competitive appointment, which means no examination is required but all candidates must meet the minimum qualifications of the title for which they apply. At a future date (within one year of permanent appointment), it is expected employees hired under NY HELPS will have their non-competitive employment status converted to competitive status, without having to compete in an examination. Employees will then be afforded with all of the same rights and privileges of competitive class employees of New York State. Duties Description Incumbent coordinates and administers wildlife related outreach, education and promotion initiatives at the regional level. This includes administration of the Hunter Education Program, support for the National Archery in Schools Program (NASP), participation in Becoming an Outdoors Woman workshops, implementation and development of recruitment/retention/reactivation (R3) initiatives, and delivery of wildlife related information and education extension content to organizations, schools, sports person organizations and other interest groups. Specific duties include: distribution of Hunter Education supplies and materials through the county coordinator system, participation in instructor candidate training courses, refresher sessions and county meetings. Coordinates instructor recruitment and training. Directly supervises the activities of all volunteer instructors and possible seasonal staff. Leads R3 efforts through development of I&E materials in various media formats, coordination of mentored hunts and delivery of skills instruction at workshops and other events. Must be able to deal effectively with the public and obtain hunter education instructor certification within one year of appointment if not already an instructor. If not already possessed, must be willing to obtain NYS hunting and trapping certifications within one year of appointmet and become certified to teach NASP instructors. Proactively seeks opportunities for hunter education, general public outreach in the region and regularly attends outreach events. Creates and hosts outreach events for the hunter education program and R3 that frequently involves travel from the office, including nights and weekends. Assist the regional wildlife unit on a variety of tasks as time and supervisor's approval allows.
