II-VI Incorporated Material Technician in Saxonburg, Pennsylvania

Job Summary: Maintains supply of cleaned evaporation materials for Saxonburg and Singapore prepared by strict manufacturing procedures. Accountable for acid room procedures including glass and quartz crystal stripping activities. Performs housekeeping duties within the Coating department including vacuuming and mopping the Gowning Rooms and Coating Shop weekly. Files and maintains lot sheets as needed. Required to support sandblasting as needed. Keeps up on the inventories and supplies for the Cleaning and Coating shop. Maintains tracking, stripping, cleaning and racking of quartz crystals for the Coating shop.

Description for Internal Candidates

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

 

  • Cleans, cuts and sizes evaporation materials according to strict manufacturing procedures. 
  • Prepares sheet stock material for Singapore material supplies. 
  • Maintains adequate inventories and supports shop floor tracking systems. 
  • Provides material or support to other areas as needed.
  • Performs acid stripping of quartz crystals and heater glass according to documented procedures.  Accountable for safety practices and cleanliness of acid room.
  • Supports filling clean room supplies such as solvents, Q-tips, evaporation, frocks, gowning areas, and cleaning items. 
  • Maintains Coating and Clean Room Inventories
  • Performs general clerical tasks as needed, such as filing lot sheets
  • Maintains a clean, neat, and organized work area, cleaning on a daily basis
  • Vacuums, removes all trash, and cleans floors on a daily basis, both coating and cleaning operations areas.
  • Wipes down work areas and equipment as needed.
  • Follows safety rules without violations.  Any safety concerns or issues are reported to supervisor.
  • Works with hazardous and radioactive materials in accordance with department procedures.
  • Files lot sheets and maintains lot sheet cabinets as needed.
  • Double-checks all document information for accuracy. Material tracking is performed accurately with no mistakes.
  • Supports engineering and all shop floor tracking initiatives. Provide feedback as required.
  • Performs monthly inventories of operational supplies for material preparation areas.

Education & Experience

  • High school graduate or equivalent
  • 0-2 years' manufacturing experience

     

Skills

  • 0-1 years' experience in a production environment
  • Strong attention to detail and quality
  • Ability to work independently
  • Ability to work with acids, radioactive materials, and other toxic chemicals in a safe environment.

Working Conditions

  • Varied work environment in manufacturing plant
  • Standing for long periods of time
  • Work with acids, radioactive materials, and other toxic chemicals
  • Some lifting up to 50 lbs.
  • Full face respirator required for some procedures - must report to work clean shaven

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Must be able to work with acids, radioactive materials and other toxic chemicals
  • Long periods of standing
  • Must be able to wear a full-face respirator -- must report to work clean shaven

Safety Requirements

All employees are required to follow the site EHS procedures and COHERENT Corporate EHS standards.

This position is subject to a pre-employment physical evaluation associated with wearing a respirator. 

This position must under-go annual physical evaluations associated with respirator use.
