  JOB SUMMARY

POET is currently the largest container exporter, exporting feed products to more than 20 countries. We are excited to have recently acquired a rail-to-container transload facility in Savannah, Georgia! By expanding our footprint, we will continue to drive consistency and demand within several of POET’s key markets for Dakota Gold and NexPro animal feed. Our customers have already come to expect nothing less than the best in food safety and quality from POET, and we will continue to deliver as a trusted partner!

The Sample Technician is responsible for the collection and analysis of grain samples arriving to POET Terminal Savannah via rail car. This role ensures that all incoming grain meets POET’s quality standards and specifications.

DURING A TYPICAL DAY

• Collect grain samples from incoming rail cars.

• Perform visual inspections and preliminary testing of grain samples.

• Document and report sample data accurately and promptly.

• Ensure all sampling equipment is maintained and calibrated.

• Adhere to all safety policies and procedures during sample collection and handling.

• Communicate any quality issues to the appropriate management team.

• Assist with the coordination of rail car movements and grain unloading operations.

  STRENGTHS OF A SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.

• One year of relevant experience or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred.

• Preferred knowledge of grain quality standards and testing procedures.

• Excellent organizational and, time management skills as well as the ability to embrace change.

• You communicate effectively in writing and in person.

• Ability to use hand and power tools for sampling equipment maintenance.

• You are proficientcy in Microsoft Office Suite and capable of learning new programs.

• Strong attention to detail and the ability to work independently.

The team member may be exposed to high noise levels, moving mechanical parts, dusty conditions, internal and external temperature/weather conditions, and chemicals.

• Specific physical requirements may include:

• Occasionally lifting weight up to sixty (60) pounds.

• Climbing several flights of stairs and ladders.

• Occasionally bending, twisting and turning while lifting weight of less than fifty (50) pounds.

• Walking up to two (2) or more miles per day.

• Pushing brooms, shovels, etc.

• Standing for extended periods of time.

• Wearing Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

• Using hand and power tools.

• Due to the physical and safety sensitive nature of this job, you will be subject to a physical and expected to pass a drug screen during the pre-screen process. During employment, you’ll be subject to random drug and alcohol testing.
