Waste Connections Operations Supervisor in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan

Our Saskatoon Hauling district has an immediate opening for an Operations Supervisor to primarily lead a team of residential drivers who operate a variety of types of equipment. This role will require you to not only learn the residential side of business but also our front-load business as you will be working hand-in-hand with that supervisor. The Residential and the Front Load Supervisor work together to ensure full coverage of the respective department.

Previous experience leading a group of employees is preferred.

Position Summary:

The Operations Supervisor is responsible for managing all the Drivers of the Residential line of business and providing coverage for the Front-load line of business as required. The Operations Supervisor ensures Collections operations are running safely by performing driver observations, regularly communicating with the team, and conducting monthly safety meetings. As the leader of our residential business unit, the key responsibilities will be to ensure safety, compliance, customer service, efficiency, and productivity targets are met consistently.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Ensures Drivers completing daily safety and maintenance checks on VCR’s

  • Coordinates with Dispatcher to ensure cart deliveries, exchanges, repairs and waste/recycle collections are completed in a timely manner.

  • Plans and monitors employee schedules and route scheduling including regular communication throughout the day until all routes are completed.

  • Performance management of employees utilizing a coaching mindset and the tools of Servant Leadership.

  • Conducts accident investigations including scene management, first accident report and final analysis with the root cause and preventative measures. Maintaining adherence to company safety policies and DOT regulations.

  • Conducts field inspections and audits of all site personnel to ensure proper work procedures.

  • Works closely with affected Municipalities to ensure service issues or missed pickups are reported and resolved.

  • Visits customers and customer sites to evaluate and resolve safety issues, seeking service alternatives where appropriate.

Qualifications:

  • 3 or more years of leading in a people-driven environment

  • Knowledge of OHS, CVSE, DOT, and MOE guidelines

  • Knowledge using Microsoft Word, Excel, and Exchange.

  • Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills

  • Must be detail-oriented, highly accountable and able to prioritize tasks.

  • Must have class 5 driver’s license and be willing to obtain Class 3A Commercial Driver’s License. Training will be funded by company.

As a condition of employment, all new employees to safety sensitive positions must successfully pass a substance test within a two-week period of their hiring date.
