Are you experienced with maintenance, general upkeep, and minor repairs? Are you comfortable working both independently and in a group setting? Our Natural Areas and Trails division is in need of a Trades Worker, capable of a high degree of initiative and decision making to ensure safe and clean parks for our community. As part of the supplemental grounds maintenance team you must be comfortable to operate and care for small equipment such as: lawn mowers, weed eaters, edgers, leaf blowers, chainsaws, pressure washers, etc. This position is a valuable asset, providing general facility and trail maintenance duties, janitorial duties, security and positive interface with the public. This role serves as a member of the Natural Areas and Trails (NAT) team ; performing light to heavy physical labor and supplementing the maintenance and upkeep of assigned parks and grounds including janitorial duties. The ideal candidate utilizes a variety of skills, including basic carpentry, fence mending, trail maintenance and experience with a variety of small gas-powered tools. Examples of job responsibilities include:

  • Offer excellent customer service and help to interpret park rules to guests and patrons.

  • Supplemental general grounds and trail maintenance involving the use and care of small equipment such as lawnmower, weed eater, edger, leaf blower, chainsaw, pressure washer.

  • Troubleshoot issues with small gas-powered tools and make simple repairs.

  • Provide supplemental janitorial duties.

  • Simple carpentry including fencing, picnic table and bench repairs.

  • Ensure routine maintenance of the interior of facilities (including historic structure) as needed, common areas, parking lots amenities and other areas.

  • Assist with special events and/or programs involving ground prep, set-up, monitoring, clean-up and closing down of event.

  • Park patrol and general inspections of assigned parks and associated facilities to ensure safety and cleanliness.

  • Complete daily work activity logs; also report potential safety hazards or maintenance issues to supervisor for follow-up as necessary.

  • Participate on team work-days assisting with invasive plant control, trail maintenance and/or fence clearing.

About the Schedule

Work Hours:

  • Full-Time, 40 hours per week.

  • Sunday - Thursday , 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

  • Work schedules may vary due to split shifts, rotations, on-call, emergencies, etc.

About You

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent education.

  • One year of experience performing repairs and performing related work in the care and maintenance of parks, facilities and amenities, trails, grounds, or other similar applicable experience.

  • Valid Florida Driver's License by date of hire.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Able to pass moderate pack test and participate as crew for prescribed fire or wildfire.

  • Possession of a valid Natural Areas Pesticide Applicators License -and- an ability to work with license holders for herbicide treatment of nuisance and invasive plants.

Physical Demands: Must occasionally lift and/or move more than 50 pounds.

Subject to Passing Substance Screening: This position is subject to passing a pre-employment substance screening. An applicant who fails to pass a required drug screening test shall be disqualified from employment in any class for a period of five (5) years.
