Your Specific Responsibilities:

GENERAL ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH PROGRAM SUPPORT: Provides field and staff support for all environmental health programs, including but not limited to: Public Swimming Pools and Bathing Areas; Healthy Beaches Program, Super-ACT, Biomedical Waste, Mobile Home Parks Sanitation, Sanitary Nuisance Complaints, Indoor Air Quality, and other DOH-Sarasota regulated facilities. Initiates and coordinates enforcement procedures related to assigned duties as required.

BIOMEDICAL WASTE: Conducts and coordinates inspections, investigations, and sanitary surveys in Biomedical Waste, Tattoo, and Body Piercing programs to ensure compliance with all applicable statutes, rules, and ordinances. Acts as a liaison with other DOH divisions, state, federal and local agencies when needed in response to complaints and inquiries regarding biomedical waste issues. Prepares reports to document compliance or non-compliance of assigned programs. Makes recommendations regarding the issuance or denial of permits. Conducts enforcement actions as necessary. Coordinates maintenance of records for all assigned areas ensuring that facility files contain the minimum required documentation per Environmental Health Program Manual 150-4.

TATTOO, AND BODY PIERCING: Conducts and coordinates inspections, investigations, and sanitary surveys in Biomedical Waste, Tattoo, and Body Piercing programs to ensure compliance with all applicable statutes, rules, and ordinances. Acts as a liaison with other DOH divisions, state, federal and local agencies when needed in response to complaints and inquiries regarding biomedical waste issues. Prepares reports to document compliance or non-compliance of assigned programs. Makes recommendations regarding the issuance or denial of permits. Conducts enforcement actions as necessary. Coordinates maintenance of records for all assigned areas ensuring that facility files contain the minimum required documentation per Environmental Health Program Manual 150-4.

SANITARY AND ENVIRONMENTAL NUISANCE COMPLAINT INVESTIGATIONS: Investigate reports of sanitary nuisance complaints. Follow-up and assure corrective action have been taken or take necessary legal action in accordance with Florida Statute Chapter 386.

COUNTY AND CITY DEVELOPMENT REVIEW PROCESS: Attends County and municipal plan review meetings and conducts plan reviews and site inspections related to Sarasota County and municipalities development review process. Identify and pursue opportunities where Environmental Public Health can be involved in policy and plan development on issues relating to land use, the built environment, and transportation.

OTHER DUTIES as assigned including providing support for all Environmental Health programs as assigned by Environmental Health Director/ Designee

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of Environmental Health Programs, Administrative Code, and County Ordinances

    Qualifications:

    Minimum –

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a physical or natural science or professional experience in environmental protection, regulation or health; one of the physical or natural sciences; or engineering that can substitute on a year-for-year basis for the required college education

  • Valid Florida driver’s license, or the ability to obtain one

  • Obtain/Maintain Certification as an Environmental Health Professional during the probationary period

    Preferred –

  • Certification as an Environmental Health Professional
