Sarasota County Government Contract Role - ATMS Traffic Signals Engineer in Sarasota, Florida

Are you a licensed, senior-level civil engineer with experience leading a team managing traffic signal systems and a background in traffic signal timing, roadway safety, signal system technology? Join our team and help us improve and modernize our 270 signal system while mentoring junior staff.

Job Description:

ATMS and Signal Systems Design

  • Support the Advanced Traffic Management System (ATMS) Team, and provide professional and technical work of corridor timing, safety studies, and other traffic projects.

  • Manage preparation of quarterly arterial performance report using traffic data from ITS devices.

  • Design signal timing using Synchro, VISSIM and other traffic software.

  • Research, test, and help implement new technology in support of the County ATMS.

  • Helps plan and implement equipment and protocols in preparation for connected and autonomous vehicles (AV/CV).

Work Hours: Typical office hours are Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

  • 40 hours/week. Flexible schedule.

About You

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering.

  • Minimum of ten (10) years of traffic engineering experience.

    • OR - Master’s Degree in Engineering may substitute for one year of required experience.
  • Must be a registered Professional Engineer (P.E.) in the State of Florida.

  • PTOE and RSP licensing a plus

About Everything Else

Pay Range: $80-$100/hour, based on your experience. Benefits availability is negotiable.
