Quality Assurance Engineer- Defense Manufacturing- Onsite Position

We have a rewarding opportunity for a Quality Assurance Engineer to join our facility in Santa Clarita, CA!

As our Quality Engineer you will ensure company compliance with customer and internal quality requirements. Develop methods for inspection, testing, sampling and training. Track and assess quality performance metrics and performs root cause analysis investigations.

You will design methods and procedures for inspecting, and evaluate the reliability and accuracy of production processes, production equipment, and finished products. Collect and analyze production data to identify trends and recommend changes to improve process reliability and product quality. Also review compliance to in-house and external contractual requirements, specifications and standards.

Location: Santa Clarita, CA

Salary Range : $ 80,500.00 - 107,350.00 per year

Your Challenge:

  • Assists in the development, application and maintenance of quality systems and procedures.

  • Collects and analyzes production data to identify trends and recommend changes to improve process reliability and product quality.

  • Performs contract reviews to ensure compliance with program, project or contract quality requirements.

  • Manages preventive and corrective action programs.

  • Serves as technical point of contact between design engineering, purchasing, manufacturing and supply base for quality related issues and questions.

  • Defines and develops quality processes, standards and criteria for receiving, in-process, and final inspection in accordance with company and contractual requirements.

  • Interfaces with customers, suppliers, and other departments to identify, and resolve quality problems, including corrective and preventive actions.

  • Participates in and may lead audits.

  • Drives process improvements utilizing Lean/Six Sigma techniques.

  • Provides technical, leadership, and supervisory support to inspection personnel.

  • Develops, maintains and publishes relevant quality metrics such as field returns, customer rejections, internal first pass yield, and throughput in assigned work centers (e.g. receiving inspection, in-process inspection, final inspection, and material review board (MRB)).

  • Initiates investigations to identify root cause and oversees the corrective action of manufacturing and process related discrepancies.

  • Reviews and approves manufacturing process instruction sheets and other manufacturing and quality documents.

  • Develops AS9102 first article inspection requirements.

  • Becomes an established and active member of the material review board (MRB).

What You Bring:

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as blueprints, mechanical drawings and electrical/environmental test requirements

  • Ability to develop and train personnel in LEAN processes and statistical methods

  • Ability to interface with engineering and manufacturing and test to investigate customer failures, develop root cause and corrective actions and prepare detailed failure reports

  • Ability to develop quality standards, procedures and train personnel in their use.

  • Familiarity with industry quality management standards such as AS9100/ISO 9001 and technical standards such as J-STD-001/IPC-610.

  • PCB fabrication and assembly experience preferred.

  • Advanced computer skills required.

  • Working knowledge of Minitab statistical program

  • Familiarity with MRP/ERP systems

  • Knowledge of statistical methods and their application.

  • Working knowledge of Lean Manufacturing/Six Sigma principles.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Occasional travel may be required to support procurement efforts, attend educational events or meet with vendors/customers.

Minimum Education requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering, Quality Assurance or a Manufacturing Technology

  • 7+ years Quality Engineering experience; aerospace industry preferred.

  • Green belt/Black belt certification in LEAN and statistical methods preferred
