UCLA Health Per Diem RN - Oncology, Santa Barbara in Santa Barbara, California
Description
Under supervision of the Director of Nursing or Medical Director, provide direct nursing care, infusion therapy and documentation to patients in the Community Oncology Practice. Major functions include: patient assessment, patient evaluation and preparation and administration of chemotherapeutic agents and other intravenous drugs, patient education and psychosocial support.
Salary: $87.47/hr
Qualifications
Required:
Possession of current California RN license
Possession of BCLS certification from the American Red Cross or American Heart Association
Possession of a MSN or BSN degree
Possession of ONS/ONCC Chemotherapy Immunotherapy
Knowledge of the Oncology patient population and practice operations
Knowledge of all aspects of infusion therapy in an oncology setting
Ability to organize, prioritize, and follow through for multiple patient treatments on an ongoing basis
Excellent blood withdrawal and IV skills
Knowledge and skill in Central line Catheters
Experience to accurately screen and triage acute patients
Knowledge to recognize abnormal laboratory values and report to Physicians
Skill in usage of medical diagnostic equipment, as well as working knowledge of instruments and supplies required to perform necessary blood tests and provide infusion therapy
Ability to accept direction from leadership and act promptly
Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with patients, peers, physicians and administrators
Skill in listening perceptively, conveying awareness and responding to patients and visitors with health concerns using tact and discretion
Ability to interact diplomatically and sympathetically with patients, their families, and general public in a high volume, clinical setting
Skill in performing with frequent interruptions an/or distractions including the ability to accept equivocal circumstances and respond to changing priorities and deadlines
Ability to maintain equanimity in the face of resistance, indifference, and hostility
Ability to maintain confidentiality and to work with sensitive and confidential information using discretion and judgment
Ability to push, pull or carry 30 pounds or more
Willing and able to travel to a number of different Hem/Onc Community practices within a defined area, providing own means of transportation
Preferred:
Possession of OCN certification
Possession of PICC line certification
Minimum of two years of acute care/oncology outpatient experience
Working knowledge of the UCLA registration system, appointment scheduling system and order entry system
