Caterpillar is seeking a Facility Quality Manager in Sanford, NC. In this role, you will be responsible for teams overseeing all quality organizations which includes quality production processes, Incoming Quality Audits (IQA), CQMS & BIQ process, calibration processes, quality engineering, root cause corrective action and 0 & 2 months in service (0 & 2MIS) field quality.

What you can look forward to in this role:

  • Champion a culture of quality within the team and process partners

  • Set goals and assist team in meeting quality goals/standards.

  • Implement various corporate initiatives such as 5S, Lean Manufacturing, 6 Sigma, Internal Certification, BIQ, etc.

  • Set budget requirements, cost savings projects, forecasting production needs and ensuring quality standards are maintained.

  • Develop plans for efficient use of materials, machines, and workforce to achieve manufacturing cost, quality, and inventory management target.

  • Promote the development of people through continued education, employee involvement, increased responsibility, and ergonomics.

  • Support new product introduction.

Additionally, you will impact LEAN by:

  • Owning the Continuous Improvement process, making sure new ideas are generated, worked, and implemented, and any roadblocks are eliminated.

  • Coaching process improvement dialogs with Senior Production Managers, Production Managers, Team Leads and Team Members.

  • Defining and ensuring adherence to quality processes.

  • Developing detailed near-term and long-term production support plans.

  • Driving root cause analysis and resolution on all forms of loss, i.e., safety, quality, velocity.

  • Performing periodic audits for safety behavior, 5S, standard work, productivity, and overall equipment effectiveness (OEE).

  • Ensuring daily production support requirements.

  • Built-in Quality (BIQ) Process Oversight:

  • As part of the Quality Management responsibilities, you will oversee the implementation and continuous improvement of the Built-in Quality (BIQ) process within the facility.

  • Leading the BIQ Strategy: Develop and implement strategies that ensure quality is integrated into each stage of the production process, with an emphasis on defect prevention and process standardization.

  • Managing the BIQ Team: Provide leadership and direction to the team responsible for executing BIQ processes, ensuring they adhere to best practices and quality standards.

  • Empowering Operators: Ensure that operators are empowered to stop production when quality issues arise, promoting a culture of accountability and defect prevention.

  • Collaboration Across Departments: Work closely with cross-functional teams to align BIQ processes with production and engineering goals, driving root cause analysis and corrective actions.

  • Monitoring Key Metrics: Track BIQ performance metrics such as Defects per Unit (DPU) and First Pass Yield (FPY), ensuring that goals are met and continuous improvement is maintained.

  • Training and Development: Ensure that team members are trained on BIQ principles, fostering a culture of quality and continuous improvement across the facility.

A successful candidate in this role will showcase their skills in:

  • Root Cause Analysis (RCA ): Knowledge of the concepts, principles and techniques of root cause analysis (RCA); ability to use a structured approach to identify the causes of undesirable consequences in a manufacturing environment and the changes needed to prevent recurrences.

  • Quality Management : Knowledge of quality management methods, tools, and techniques and ability to create and support an environment that meets the quality goals of the organization.

  • Quality Risk Management: Knowledge of processes, tools, and techniques for Quality Risk Management; ability to implement the quality assurance process of assessment, control, communication, and review of risks to the quality of products.

  • Influencing : Knowledge of effective influencing tactics and strategies; ability to impact decisions within and outside own organization.

Top Candidates for this position may also have:

  • Progressive career growth in Operations, Supply Chain, Quality, or related fields that includes leading people.

  • A degree in a manufacturing or business degree

  • A demonstrated ability to work with a diverse group of people across functional areas in a facility.

  • A working knowledge of quality management systems

  • Project management background

  • Demonstrated focus on people, quality, velocity, and cost.

  • Demonstrated strong problem-solving skill along with deep knowledge of how to leverage LEAN principles toward continuous improvement.

The primary location for this position is Sanford, NC.
