Meridian Public Schools Substitute Custodian in Sanford, Michigan
FULL-TIME SCHOOL DAY CUSTODIAL SUBSTITUTE
HOURS/CALENDAR: 8.0 Hours per day, Flexible per Meridian School Calendar-School Days only
QUALIFICATIONS: High School Diploma, or equivalent. Custodial experience preferred.

RATE OF PAY: Starting at $13.25 per hour

SUMMARY: The Custodian is responsible for the safety, security, and cleanliness of the building(s) and grounds, maintaining the school physical plant in a condition of operating excellence for full educational use at all times.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Other duties may be assigned.
- Maintains excellent personal hygiene.
- Possesses and maintains an excellent attendance record.
- Practices safety while at work by maintaining a safe and clean work environment.
- Assumes responsibility for the security of the building each night and for determining, before leaving, that all doors and windows are secured, and all lights, except those left on for safety purposes, are turned off.
- Works with standard custodial chemicals and finishes for cleaning, sanitizing, and disinfection.
- Performs scheduled full cleaning assignments.
- Dust mops or vacuums floors and dusts rooms, uses various vacuum cleaners.
- Cleans, maintains urinals, stools, and other restroom fixtures.
- Washes windows and doors as appropriate.
- Replenishes, maintains, and repairs soap and paper dispensers.
- Washes whiteboards, desks, chairs, walls, tables, and other room surfaces and furnishings.
- Cleans, maintains, and repairs lockers.
- Performs all other light housekeeping chores.
- Locks/Unlocks doors.
- Maintains floors including floor finishing and floor machine operation.
- Removes trash and re-lines trash receptacles; keeps the grounds free of trash/rubbish.
- Cleans snow from walkways and makes sure walkways are always clear.
- Changes light bulbs and repairs light fixtures.
- Moves and assembles furniture and other classroom equipment as authorized by the principal.
- Checks the heating plant and related equipment for proper operation.
- Utilizes the work order system.
- Performs minor plumbing and mechanical repairs and maintenance within the building and grounds such as, but not limited to, leaky faucets or pipes, door and window hardware.
- Continually checks, corrects, or reports dangerous equipment conditions and potentially hazardous situations.
- Climbs ladders and works from scaffolding.
- Complete painting projects as assigned by the Director of Operations.
- Effectively communicates all operational needs to principals, staff, and the operations office.
- Makes necessary arrangements within the building for all events and activities.
- Performs a lead role with staff to communicate, organize, and carry out work within the building.
- Other duties and tasks as assigned by the Director of Operations.
